Robert Stack (TV's the Untouchables) stars as Chuck Regan, a brash American skeet shooting champion whose visit to Mexico introduces him to two irresistible forces The exotic Anita de la Vega (Joy Page) and the lure of the way of the matador. Unflinching in his confidence, Regan sets out to conquer both. He arranges to learn bullfighting from an icon of the Mexican corrida, Manolo Estrada (Gilbert Roland). But Regan's headstrong assertiveness and desire to impress Anita gets the best of him when he debuts in the ring and knows there's only one way and one place he can redeem himself. The stellar cast includes Katy Jurado, Virginia Grey and John Hubbard. A John Wayne production - beautifully and stylishly directed by Budd Boetticher (Seven Men from Now), this was his breakthrough film and first under the name Budd, previously used the name Oscar Boetticher, Jr. Originally released at 87 minutes - This is the restored 124 minute director's cut.

Northern Lawyer John Reynolds (John Wayne) goes up against the lottery racket in 1880 corrupt Louisiana. While to the riverboat to New Orleans, he meets and falls in love with Southern Belle, Julie (Ona Munson), General Anatole Mirbeau's beautiful daughter. The General (Henry Stephenson) and his right-hand man Blackburn 'Blackie' Williams (Ray Middleton) run the popular Louisiana State Lottery Company, which support illegal activities and brothels while corrupting judges and other city officials. The battle between the men are complicated with Reynolds' love for the General's daughter and interrupted by torrential rain storms that breaks the levees, floods the city and threatens to destroy the city of New Orleans. Stylishly directed by Bernard Vorhaus who had previously directed John Wayne in the memorable drama, Three Faces West. Includes an early performance by Dorothy Dandridge (Carmen Jones).
