About this product
C Duncan's highly anticipated third album, following his Mercury Prize nominated debut and the critically acclaimed The Midnight Sun sees the Scottish multi-instrumentalist ditch his bedroom studio and work with other producers, engineers and musicians for the first time. Navigating themes of love, anxiety and sexuality, Health is a deeply personal record that delves into a world Duncan had previously felt uneasy exploring. Warm and harmonically rich, Duncan delightfully juxtaposes the vibrant and wholesome aesthetic of the album with an often darker lyrical undertone, pushing himself to refine and explore new ways of writing. As the sole protagonist of his self-carved niche, Health sees Duncan evolve and expand it's parameters in mesmerizing fashion. Chiming with rippling enchantment, Duncan's vocal harmonies are executed with acute precision. Health has added even more layers while remaining thematically and lyrically laid very bare. Written around the time of the anti-gay purges in Chechnya, 'He Came From The Sun' sees Duncan slow things down and contemplate his own life and experience of coming out. Stuck Here With You' keeps the pace going before 'Care' wraps things up, the undulating heartbreak ballad a gentle and sombre end to an album packed with fresh ideas and buzzing with invention.

We're at the end,Inch sings C Duncan, playfully, as his new album opens. Don't be fooled, endings are the spur for new beginnings on the fourth album from the classically trained multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter. After the haunting raptures of Architect (2015), the Twilight Zone-inspired reveries of The Midnight Sun (2016) and the richly melodic Health (2019), Alluvium is a sublime palate-refresher, brimming with revitalised fluency a warming dispatch from the daylight zone, if you like. With personal stories as fertile soil for it's multi-stranded growths, Alluvium navigates it's many tones and styles with lightness and grace. As Duncan explains InchWith Alluvium I wanted to make a positive record with lots of different musical ideas and lyrics that could move from serious to playful to over-the-top romantic in a fluid way.Inch
Vinyl LP pressing. A telepathic Afro-Caribbean improvisational DUO' as they've dubbed themselves, Aquiles Navarro & Tcheser Holmes are also known as 2/5 of the revolutionary free jazz quintet Irreversible Entanglements. Navarro ' a protégé of Carlos Garnett (whose incendiary woodwind sounds are famously heard on Miles Davis's On The Corner and Pharaoh Sanders's Black Unity) ' is Panamanian immigrant, trumpeter, composer & community organizer (who heads his own record tag, River Down Records). Holmes is a life-long drummer & percussionist, born in Brooklyn and raised into a musical Pan- African spiritual community (the Ausar Auset Society). Heritage of the Invisible II finds them exploring in their purest forms ' diving deep into the abstract depths of free improvisation, discovering new dialectic survival methods, and surfacing with an ecstatic, advanced articulation of Afro-Caribbean-inflected future folk.
