About this product
C.J. Boyd has literally spent the last ten years of his life on tour. Boyd refers to his obsessive dedication to the road as the InfiniTour. As the ten-year anniversary of the InfiniTour approached, both Boyd and his tag (Joyful Noise Recordings) decided the occasion should be marked with the of a commemorative album. But no ordinary album would suffice, the project would have to match the expansive scope of the massive endeavor being celebrated. From this idea Kin Ships was born. Kin Ships is a sprawling four disc collection documenting the vast assortment of people and places Boyd has touched, and been touched by over the last ten years. Kin Ships traces Boyd's winding path across the United States, making use of many unconventional recording spaces along the way, from an A&W parking lot in Wheatland, Wyoming, to an abandoned grain silo in Buffalo, New York, to the bathroom in the Delaware House Travel Plaza on I-95 in Newark, Delaware. But Boyd is quick to assert that the American landscape framing his sonic adventures is merely circumstantial - none of us get a say in deciding where we're born, right? InchI have absolutely no allegiance to the US or any government,Inch Boyd emphasizes. Though Boyd didn't set out to create a celebration or critique of the United States, some commentary was inevitable. In the liner notes, Boyd shares memories of his encounters with Occupy Wall Street in New York, and the Standing Rock protests in North Dakota. One of the most memorable moments on Kin Ships is Boyd's somber reading of Adam Matlock's moving InchSong For FergusonInch. In his commentary on the song in the album's notes, Boyd explains how his bi-racial heritage has shaped his views on race and justice in America. Boyd's love for the music and musicians he's encountered on the road is palpable. At times Kin Ships feels like an intimate curated tour through 21st-century

2CD hardcover artbook. VEMOD are by no means an average band. The Norwegians exist in the liminal spaces and the crossroads of places. The trio has chiselled their sophomore full-length InchThe DeepeningInch from the same sonic granite that it's predecessor InchVenter pa stormeneInch came from over a decade ago. This bedrock is found in Namsos, where VEMOD were conceived as a lifelong passion project at the turn of the century by then 12-year old Jan Even Asli. The nearest big city is Trondheim where the fiercely individual local Nidrosian black metal scene, which refers to the city's original name, provided VEMOD with it's first point of musical reference as embodied by the first demo InchKringom fjell og skogInch (2004). When the Norwegians reemerged seven years later with both the track InchMoestae QverelaeInch on a split-single and the demo InchVinterildenInch in 2011, they had considerably changed. The trio had taken a step outside by strengthening elements that have already been present before a sprinkle of the majesty reminding of early IN THE WOODS..., a dash of melancholia, and a knife tip of introvert contemplation among a wide range of emotional and vivid sonic imagery. VEMOD's musical transition finds comparable parallels in the development of French brothers-in-spirit ALCEST even though there was no direct influence flowing either way. In hindsight, the Norwegians also pioneered such currently popular styles such as blackgaze and post-black metal, although they never subscribed to either. With their debut full-length InchVenter pa stormeneInch just a year later in 2012, VEMOD opened their music to new places A mind-blowing performance at the prestigious Beyond the Gates festival in 2013 and the legendary special show within the national treasure of the Vigeland Mausoleum at Oslo's Inferno Festival 2014 cemented VEMOD's excellent reputation even across t
