![Humfrey / Higginbottom - Symphony Anthems - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/1b32addf-97a5-4001-a8fd-b53dc737ca06.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
Pelham Humfrey (1647-1674) was a genuine baroque pioneer in the word-setting of English biblical texts, as well as applying elements of French and Italian styles to his work. By the age of seventeen his anthems were evidently in use. He later succeeded Henry Cooke (his father-in-law) as Master of the Children of the Chapel Royal and also became composer to the Court. Humfrey died at the age of 27, but along with Matthew Locke exerted a strong influence on his peers even at his young age, including William Turner, Henry Purcell, and John Blow. The seven symphony anthems included on this recording have been selected from the extant 19 to demonstrate Humfrey's range of work in the genre. The anthems represent his most substantial contribution to English music and show him to be the country's leading composer of the early Restoration period. Edward Higginbottom is one of the UK's leading musicians, with a global reputation for his work as a choral director, established through his directorship of New College Choir Oxford over many years. The newly formed Oxford Consort of Voices is made up of singers largely selected from the alumni of Oxford's famous collegiate choirs.
Mount Fuji towers over Norwegian forests. At the top, the lovechild of Led Zeppelin and Tame Impala brews up a colorful progrock storm. Get ready to ride the whirlwind of a debut album from Mesaverde! The quartet consists of experienced musicians with everything from stadium concerts in Hong Kong, dusty British rock clubs, to the National Theater among their merits. Jørgen Apeness (Sauropod, Thea & The Wild, Lazy Queen), Lars Fremmerlid (Bugge Wesseltoft, Einar Stray Orchestra), Henrik Schmidt (Synne Sanden, Shimmering) have headhunted the shooting star Jonas Lundekvam as vocalist and lyricist. The debut album InchKYInch (the Japanese term for not being able to read the room) is a journey for the listener. The record spans from dreamy, atmospheric soundscapes to playful, fast-paced, virtuos sections. The lyrics tackle the prejudiced stories we tell each other. Our limited worldviews. But InchKYInch is not a dystopian document, but a tribute to those who free us from chaos to truth and an open mind01. Dreamers02. Smile03. Like You Used To04. Grace05. In Time06. Caravan is the new album from Cactus Lee, an Austin based musician with a tireless devotion to songcraft. The record's influences are culled from generation-spanning sounds of quintessentially Texas music. It is the most sonically expansive version of the project yet, featuring ornate arrangements akin to the likes of Gene Clark. It marks a clear evolution from homespun beginnings, showcasing the payoff of months of weekly performances and time spent in the studio. The record is out October 20th via Org Music and Aquarium Drunkard, available on vinyl and in digital formats.
