Catherine Christer Hennix - Solo For Tamburium - VINYL LP

Solo for Tamburium is legendary minimalist composer Catherine Christer Hennix's first solo recording in nearly 50 years, since her vaunted 1976 record The Electric Harpsichord. Using a keyboard-controlled suite of eighty-eight electronic tambura, Hennix creates a sweeping and exacting drone that thrusts the listener into what the composer calls divine equilibrium, a state of spiritual contemplation. Hennix was part of the downtown music school in New York, has worked extensively with some of it's key figures, including Henry Flynt and La Monte Young, and studied closely with Pandit Pran Nath. This new major work applies the principles she developed in this important moment to a maze-like sonic landscape that will apply to fans of '70s minimalism and contemporary electronic music alike.

Herbert Von Karajan Philharmonia Orchestra Berliner Philarmoniker - Karajan Spectaclar 6 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

IDIS continues in it's mission of reviving some of the most extraordinary Karajan recordings made during the Fifties and Sixties with this Karajan Spectacular VI volume. This album presents some extraordinary Beethoven and Wagner works of which Karajan has been an insurmountable interpreter, becoming obligatory point of reference for the two composers' discography. Beethoven Symphony Overtures recorded by Karajan with D.G. during the Sixties were one of the milestones of their discography; but in the Fifties the great conductor created with EMI records an incredible series with the legendary Philharmonia Orchestra. During the Sixties Wagner's recordings with the Berliner Philarmoniker were no less valid and culminated with the incredible Tetralogy; after Wagner's rhetorical and heavy interpretation during the Nazi period, Karajan's performance and interpretation has been rightly received as a complete rediscovery of a composer used only for propaganda purposes. This is a real do not miss album recorded in high quality.

Cambini / Trio Hegel - Cambini & Cherubini: String Trios - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The renowned Trio Hegel, violin, viola and cello, in this CD is offering to us an extract of the chamber music prevalent in the salons and the courts from the end of the eighteenth century up to the mid/late nineteenth century. The authors of these compositions - Cherubini and Cambini - were both of Tuscan origin, and both worked in Paris (Cherubini there was even director of the Conservatory from 1821) enjoying great fame. The string trios here are compositions rich in nuances and gallantry (according to the taste of the time), always very well made; they represent a summary of what was the typical Parisian hausmusik, bringing the listener to the enchanting atmospheres of Paris in the late nineteenth century.
