As a producer, that is often the question. The producer's job is both to capture the spirit and allow it to be free at the same time. Yes, it can be done, and we have attempted to do exactly that on the album you are holding in your hands. I first became aware of Candy John on Donovan's 1970 Open Road album, which was itself a departure for Donovan. That album indeed breathed with the spirit and freedom of the open road, and I understand now how Candy John was a great instigator of it's ethos and conception. Since then, his own road has led to many places and spaces - discoveries of the heart and mind. It was an absolute pleasure to help him put it all together, set to the beats and melodies of his supremely natural musicality, on this very special long-player. Candy Now - Karmel Knowledge [VINYL LP] date 05/12/2023
The music of CARM features horns in roles typically reserved for drums, guitars, and voices, while also escaping the genre categorizations reserved for music featuring an instrumentalist as bandleader. It is not jazz or classical music, nor is it a soundtrack. This is contemporary popular music that features a sound normally used as a background color and texture as the unabashed lead voice.According to CARM, aka CJ Camerieri, InchIt started with the question 'What kind of record would my trumpet-playing heroes from the past make today?' I believe they would want to work with the best producers, beat makers, song-writers, and singers to create new, truly culturally relevant music, and that's what I sought to do with this project.Inch Produced in Minneapolis by Ryan Olson (Polica, Lizzo) and featuring collaborations with Sufjan Stevens, Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), Yo La Tengo, Shara Nova, Mouse on Mars, Francis and the Lights and many others. It is a completely unique sound that additionally serves as a survey of the collaborations that have come to define the artist's career thus far.Says Vernon, InchI truly believe there isn't a more accomplished brass player in the entire world of music. And this is way more than a 'horn' record. It's a discovery of new heights with what is possible in creating music.InchThe album begins with an orchestral brass choir of French horns, which quickly gives way to a piano sample of Francis and the Lights, as Stevens and Luppen combine voices over a rich bed of horns to sing InchSong of Trouble.Inch The album bookends with the same piano sample used as a springboard to a beautiful and iconic lyric by Vernon in the album closer InchLand.Inch Between these two generation-defining artists we have the upward sweeping melodies in InchSoft Night,Inch fanfares reminiscent of Ennio Morricone in InchNowhere,Inch and the uncompromisingly original
Album Tracks 1. Cloudy Skies 2. Further 3. Petals 4. Dayglow Bimbo 5. Marigold & Gray 6. Cutlass Cruiser 7. Hours Between 8. I Just Wanna Make You Real 9. Seconds Erase 10. Topless
