Bought this to try out macro shooting. It focuses well and the image stabilization is great. The light is decent, and can also turn on different sections of the ring. If you are thinking about getting into macro, this is a good and inexpensive lens to see if you like the hobby rather than spending $1k+ on a higher-end macro lens.

I love the macro light! I was first nervous to get a macro because I wasn't sure how it would perform for portraits but it's great. And super easy to land focus!

This lens is amazing ! I use it on my Canon Rebel T1 and the quality of photos with the prime lens is so much better than the original lens that came with it. I love how versatile it is whether you are taking pictures of items for detail or taking family portraits.

There's not much of a selection of dedicated macro lenses for EF-S mount Canon cameras, and the 60mm and 100mm Canon versions are much more expensive than this 35 mm lens. Pros: -SHARP at F/8 -Capable of beautiful bokeh if shot is composed correctly. -Adjustable macro light ring built in to lens. -Lens comes with hood Cons: -DOF VERY thin at f/2.8 -a tad slow finding focus

Absolutely an awesome lens. The light feature makes it easier to handle low light situations.
Love this lens, wrote a review for the wrong lens but this one I absolutely love! The light ring makes things very easy to use.

I actually really love my lens. When I first used the lens I wasn't sure if I really liked it but I been using it to make photos of bugs and the photos come out so wonderful.

It's a good lens but be sure that it's what you are looking for, I didn't realize you are getting a small portion of your image clear and that you have to be very close to what you are capturing. Love the light feature to it, it definitely helps.

This is the first macro lens I have purchased and am very impressed by it. The image quality is fantastic and the light ring is a very handy feature. I especially like that you can turn on the entire light ring or either side to add a cool effect. The one thing I do find challenging is that there is a very narrow field of view when taking extreme close ups. Some of the object will be in focus but others may not if there is any kind of bend to it but it is not something that should deter you in any way as it does add a nice effect. I have tried this for landscape shots and portraits as well and both came out very well in my opinion. All in all this is a very good quality and versatile lens and I have been very pleased with my purchase.

I love this lens. Crisp, clear pics. Macro shots are fun and interesting, but it also works well for general purpose shots. The halo light adds just enough light to highlight. 2.8 allows lots of light for great shots in low light settings. Overall, paired with 80d, a fun little versatile lens for not a lot of money.

This lens is amazing, the clarity and 1 to 1 replication of subject at Macro is just unbelievable. You can get the lens right up to the subject (about 2 inches by my tests). It’s a great lens for general shooting as well, and the added macro light is such a great feature to have. The price tag for this lens seems way too low for the amount of lens you get.

I use this lens for close-ups for stock photography, so the results have to be sharp. So far I've been very happy with it. The lens is fast and the results are crisp and clear. A bonus is that the lens is lightweight and easy to use. I love the light ring feature, and the stabilization feature helps because macro subjects can be a challenge to shoot clearly if they move even the slightest bit.

When trying to do serious macro shots with any 35mm to 60mm macro lens, there will likely be some problems: With shooting so close, many live subjects will be annoyed. In addition, the picture may display a rather distorted perspective. Also, at extreme working distances of only one or two inches, most ambient light will be blocked. Canon now tries to address the latter issue with a lens featuring a built-in light. The Macro Lite seems quite bright when turned on. However, it is really only bright enough to illuminate a subject very close to the lens. Moving beyond the high magnification macro range, a stronger external illumination is still needed. Plus, if the Macro Lite is pretty much the only light source, it can create a flashlight look on reflective surfaces. The Canon EF-S 35mm f/2.8 Macro IS STM is a smoothly and silently focusing compact prime lens for cropped-sensor cameras. Image stabilization and the integrated light make the lens great for pictures of inanimate objects in a low light setting. The lens may show some barrel distortion and dimmed corners at wide apertures, but it generally delivers very sharp pictures.

Priced perfectly in my opinion. Excellent quality images. The macro light right on the lens is pure genius design and comes handy more often than you might think. One issue is the very small area of focus when you are too close to the subject. I always enjoyed taking pictures of plants and flowers and this has helped me get much more closer to them (literally)

This is a great lens for the price. Excellent close shots with blurred background. The built in lights work flawlessly. Image stabilized and an almost silent focusing motor.

Excellent lens. Lens is very good quality and helps provide clear and defined photo's in very close settings. The addition of the built in light functionality allows to highlight desired portions of the subject.

All lenses I bought were from BestBuy but once the one I needed was out of stock . It was not expensive so I decided to buy somewhere else. It was huge mistake as it had so many dust particles inside (new item). So I decided to never make that mistake again and when time came I bought from BestBuy as always. It was this 35 mm lens. It arrived in perfect new and clean condition as always. The lens is good, I love it a lot. For me as the beginner it is not easy to focus on not flat items (flowers outside) yet but I will learn the best way to do it. I was making pictures of pomegranate seeds on the flat surface using tripod and I love the outcome. Amazing macro photos!!!
