  • General
    • Brand: Canon
    • Model Number: 1096C001
    • Product Name: PowerShot ELPH 180 20.0-Megapixel Digital Camera
    • Color: Red
    • Digital Camera Type: Point and Shoot Cameras
  • Imaging
    • Image Sensor Type: CCD (CCD and CMOS are the two main technologies used in image sensors. CCD, the older of the two types, turns analog light signals into digital pixels. This conversion happens without distortion, resulting in high-quality images. Newer CMOS sensors use transistors at each pixel to move electrical charges. CMOS sensors are typically less expensive, but also require more light to create distortion-free images.)
    • Image Resolution (Display): 5152 x 3864 (Refers to the number of pixels, both horizontally and vertically, used to either capture an image or display it. The higher the resolution the finer the image details.)
    • Image File Format(s): JPEG (Standardized software format(s) of storing digital images. The type of format chosen for capturing and compressing the image can determine quality, level of detail, and storage space required.)
  • Focus
    • Autofocus: true (Allows the camera to automatically focus through the lens, rather than by adjusting the lens manually.)
  • Exposure Control
    • Shutter Speeds: 1 - 1/2000 sec. (The length of time the shutter remains open when the shutter release is activated, expressed in fractions of seconds. The longer the shutter is open, the more light that is able to be captured by the camera sensor.)
    • Minimum Aperture: 20 (The smallest opening of a lens, typically expressed in f-numbers. The larger the number, the smaller the aperture and the less light that can enter the lens. A smaller aperture creates a larger depth of field, which keeps both foreground and background in focus.)
    • Maximum Aperture: 3.2 (The limit to how wide a lens can be open, typically expressed in f-numbers. The smaller the number, the larger the aperture and the more light that can enter the lens. A larger aperture creates a shallower depth of field, helpful for keeping subjects in focus and blurring background details.)
    • Shooting Modes: P, auto, digital IS, portrait, face self-timer, low light, fisheye effect, miniature effect, toy camera effect, monochrome, super vivid and more (Exposure modes employed by the photographer to control the optimal aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and other settings for capturing specific subjects/scenes. Examples include Aperture-Priority, Macro, and Manual modes.)
  • Flash
    • Flash Modes: Automatic (The flash feature emits light to increase the brightness of a subject in dimly lit environments. Common modes include Auto and Red-Eye Reduction.)
    • Integrated Flash: true
  • Display
    • Display Type: LCD
    • Screen Size: 2.7 inches (Size of the screen, measured diagonally from corner to corner.)
    • Screen Resolution: 230,000 dots (Screens come in a range of resolutions (measured in pixels, horizontal x vertical). The higher the resolution, the greater the picture quality.)
    • Touch Screen: false (Touch-screen devices make navigating more intuitive. Using a touch-screen display, you can do things such as tap to select, hold and drag to move items, swipe to scroll, and pinch to zoom.)
  • Storage
    • Number of Memory Card Slots: 1
  • Compatibility
    • Tripod/Monopod Mountable: false (A support function that allows the device to be mounted to monopods and tripods for leveling and stability.)

Q: What type of USB cord do i need to purchase for this camera to import pix directly to my computer?

A: You will need a mini usb cable to connect this camera to a computer.

Q: Is this a good point and shoot camera? Quick shooting speed ? Great for a beginning photographer??

A: If you are trying to get into photography, I would save the money and get the SX530 or SX60 as a stepping stone to a DSLR EOS series or better. This camera is good for about the 15-20 foot range at most, digital zoom leaves a little to be desired and is not the fastest shutter speed by any means.

Q: How is the video quality? Can you select different settings? Will this camera take a 32mb card for video? Easy to transfer to computer?? That's it. Thanks.

A: Video quality is poor because it loses focus during filming. I would only use this camera for taking still photos.

Q: Does this come with a card?

A: The camera does not include an SD card.

Q: What does WiFi allow me to do? Can i WiFi to a laptop to download to a file?

A: This camera has no Wi-Fi whatsoever. No button for it, it's not in camera settings and there are no Wi-Fi mentioning in manual that comes with it.

Q: Can't figure out how to attach wrist strap that came with the camera?

A: After many attempts, used dental floss & tweezers To pull loop through the slot...very difficult!

Q: How realistic are the color shots? I take a lot of flower pics. Are the reds accurate for color?

A: I used it in Hawaii, and in the tropical garden, and the colors were amazing, and the close-ups of the flowers were clear and detailed. One example shown.

Q: does this camera use AA batteries?

A: No, this model has a rechargeable battery.
