  • General
    • Brand: Canon
    • Model Number: 9350B001
    • Product Name: PowerShot ELPH-340 16.0-Megapixel Digital Camera
    • Color: Purple
    • Digital Camera Type: Point and Shoot Cameras
  • Imaging
    • Image Sensor Type: CMOS (CCD and CMOS are the two main technologies used in image sensors. CCD, the older of the two types, turns analog light signals into digital pixels. This conversion happens without distortion, resulting in high-quality images. Newer CMOS sensors use transistors at each pixel to move electrical charges. CMOS sensors are typically less expensive, but also require more light to create distortion-free images.)
    • Image Resolution (Display): 4608 x 3456 (Refers to the number of pixels, both horizontally and vertically, used to either capture an image or display it. The higher the resolution the finer the image details.)
    • Low Light/High Sensitivity: true (High sensitivity digital imaging devices are designed to work in low light conditions to produce a high dynamic range image.)
    • Image File Format(s): Other, JPEG (Standardized software format(s) of storing digital images. The type of format chosen for capturing and compressing the image can determine quality, level of detail, and storage space required.)
  • Focus
    • Autofocus: true (Allows the camera to automatically focus through the lens, rather than by adjusting the lens manually.)
  • Exposure Control
    • Shutter Speeds: 1 - 1/2000 sec.; 15 - 1 sec. (long exposure) (The length of time the shutter remains open when the shutter release is activated, expressed in fractions of seconds. The longer the shutter is open, the more light that is able to be captured by the camera sensor.)
    • Minimum Aperture: 3.6 (The smallest opening of a lens, typically expressed in f-numbers. The larger the number, the smaller the aperture and the less light that can enter the lens. A smaller aperture creates a larger depth of field, which keeps both foreground and background in focus.)
    • Maximum Aperture: 7 (The limit to how wide a lens can be open, typically expressed in f-numbers. The smaller the number, the larger the aperture and the more light that can enter the lens. A larger aperture creates a shallower depth of field, helpful for keeping subjects in focus and blurring background details.)
    • Burst Mode: true (Also referred to as continuous shooting. This feature captures multiple shots in rapid succession.)
    • Shooting Modes: None (Exposure modes employed by the photographer to control the optimal aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and other settings for capturing specific subjects/scenes. Examples include Aperture-Priority, Macro, and Manual modes.)
    • Panorama Mode: false
    • White Balance Modes: Auto, daylight, cloudy, tungsten, fluorescent, fluorescent H, custom (Settings that calibrates how the color white is rendered in an image/video, reducing the appearance of unnatural contrasts caused by various light sources.)
  • Lens
    • Lens Mount Compatibility: Not Applicable
  • Flash
    • Flash Modes: Slow sync, Off, Automatic (The flash feature emits light to increase the brightness of a subject in dimly lit environments. Common modes include Auto and Red-Eye Reduction.)
    • Integrated Flash: true
  • Display
    • Display Type: LCD
    • Screen Size: 3 inches (Size of the screen, measured diagonally from corner to corner.)
    • Viewfinder Type: Electronic (A viewfinder is the part of a camera (or attachment) that allows you to see and focus a scene in frame. Optical viewfinders let you view the scene directly through the lens. Electronic viewfinders display the image on a screen in its approximate final form.)
    • Touch Screen: false (Touch-screen devices make navigating more intuitive. Using a touch-screen display, you can do things such as tap to select, hold and drag to move items, swipe to scroll, and pinch to zoom.)
  • Storage
    • Number of Memory Card Slots: 1
  • Compatibility
    • Memory Card Compatibility: Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC), Secure Digital, Secure Digital Extended Capacity (SDXC) (The type of memory card(s) recommended for use with the product.)
  • Features
    • Face Detection: true (A function that automatically detects human faces and then sets focus and appropriate exposure to capture them.)
    • Integrated GPS: No
  • Connectivity
    • PictBridge Enabled: true (PictBridge allows digital cameras, camcorders and other image capture devices to connect and print directly to photo printers and other output devices without using a computer.)

Q: Aside from the Wi-Fi option, is there a cable for downloading pictures to my Mac? Software?

A: You have to buy the cable separately, that was a down side to getting this camera.

Q: Date printed on photos?

A: YES IT WILL PRINT THE TIME AND DATE IN THE LOWER RIGHT CORNER OF THE PICTURE.

Q: Where does the wrist strap attach to my new Canon ELPH 340?

A: There is a little slot on the ride end of the camera in the middle (about even with the round function options on the back of the camera.

Q: Does this model have color accent and color swap modes?

A: Yes and no. It does not have them as options that can be accessed in the menu for selecting photo mode. The selector on top of the camera next to the shutter button has three settings, Auto, Creative Shot, and Hybrid Auto. Creative Shot will generate multiple versions of the same image with the typical creative effects/filters that have been available in other models.

Q: reaction time and video

A: The camera can turn on very quickly. Just hit the button twice on the back of the phone, and it opens up directly with the camera app and snaps the picture. As for video, yes it does stay in focus when one zooms in.

Q: cable for taking pictures

A: We have used a gorilla which attaches at the bottom to the camera, then we use the delay timer after setting up the focus we want. Works well for us.

Q: will this camera work on an apple desk top ?

A: That issue is with your iMac, not the camera. Mine works great. Try rebooting your iMac.

Q: Is there an interface cable for this camera, Canon Power Shot ELPH340HS 12X optical zoom to my desk top Windows computer, if so what is its part numbe

A: I believe my cord came with the camera. I know the previous canon versions came with the cord, so I can't say for sure if I use an old cord or new one.
