I was looking for something that would give me a quality picture and a great sound. On both of these counts this prosumer camera delivers. You will need to add a shotgun mike on top to get the best sound (I added a Rode shogun mike) but even the built in mics are ok. This camera allows you to go fully automatic and never touch a thing or manual and you have a full range of controls including aperture setting, exposure time etc every aspect of the camera is in your control. I love it!

I'm a host of a hunting show and needed a camera for self filming segments of the show. Cannot have an entire crew in the bush or on the water all of the time. This camera held it's own with cameras that cost 8k-12k. The auto setting work on the fly and allow me to host and film with little technical know how

Still learning how to use and shoot and really like the higher quality video compared to my DSLR camera ... a big bonus is the auto focus while recording which my DSLR cannot do ,, plus other things ... my major peeve is the recorded files are mts files which needs to be converted to other formats to play on other devices ,, and if you use the highest resolution to record ,, it is even harder to convert that you need to find some 3rd or other party software to do it ... if you use what I see as the medium resolution the G30 will convert to mp4

I purchased this camera as an upgrade. I previously used a Sony model costing 2/3 less than this one. I am pleased with the ease of use and the various features this camera has compared to the previous type I used. The only drawback I found was that a battery charger, separate from the camera was not included.

This makes some nice video and is a lot better than using the DSLR ,, the video files are .mts files that you have to convert to play on other devices or players ,, it can convert to .mp4 files ,, but only the middle resolution and is a step you manually have to do within the camcorder ... Using this ,, the biggest benefit is the auto focus while recording that my DSLR cannot do ...

I've used the Canon XL, XL2, XL HD1 and HDA1s videocameras over the years and although this is like the A1s this has many new features which make it much more versatile. Recording simultaneous to MP4 (best for streaming), ACVD (best for Blue Ray,) plus WiFi for remote viewing to a tablet and HDMI output for RAW output is amazing! Even more amazing, I found that if I use the Aux Lens setting, I can even use my old Canon G photo camera auxiliary lenses, .75x wide angle and 2x telephoto to extend the 20x lens to the 35mm format equivalent from 21mm wide angle to 1,150mm telephoto. I wish that it had XLR inputs since I had to buy a Juicedlink pre-amp as well, which set me back $ 429 more to get professional sound. Be sure to use a high speed write card (like 80 MB/sec). This has become my favorite "run and gun" video camera yet at a fraction of the cost of the $ 11,000 when new, Canon XLHD1!

I chose this camera for my work in the performing arts. It's been a good choice for us to post clips of performances online. The image quality is good even under high contrast stage lighting. It was fairly easy to figure out and use right away. Just added an additional microphone to help capture sound in certain circumstances. Would definitely recommend this camera.

This camera has been great so far in the first few months of use. The low light sensitivity has been second to none, and the image quality is very good. Wifi control using my tablet has been a very handy feature as well. I am very happy with the purchase. The only downside I have is I wish the zoom speed was more adjustable then the three options you are given.

This camera/camcorder does all that I expected. It takes crisp and clear video, takes still pictures, and has a shield that can be removed or left on that is supposed to dim out unwanted light or glare. The only negative thing I have to say about the Canon is that I think that the price point could be lower, but then again, that could be said about many products.

A wonderful step up to 4K. Easy to use, clear monitor and terrific broadcast-quality final image. Only slight niggle is the zoom button feels rather industrial and makes zooming in and out a bit haphazard.

recording in auto ,( football game at sundown) away from the sun, terrible results. Zooming in and out in auto, ( blurring). Doesn't zoom in far enough for football game.Recorded Sound too low, Zoom switch too sensitive, difficult to zoom in and out slowly,no quick start feature, ( too long to start up, after turning off and trying to save juice. Joystick freezes up on certain menus. Can't just quickly pick clips for down loading, Must wait for entire clips on card to read, battery won't charge during playback on tv. not easy to pick clips on led screen for viewing, all clips on card load, doesn't give choice by date to view. Not for sports, If I could take it back, no questions I would.

Fantastic body design and manual controls. I love the new lens hood. The front control dial is better . The touch screen responds faster, like an iPhone 5. There is now a physical pad to dial in menu settings for those of you who do not like touch screens. The zoom rocker is hefty and much smoother. The EVF articulates. The placement of the I/O is more practical overall. And we finally get a COLD SHOE and a smart shoe, so we can attach Canon accessories on the back and cold shoe accessories on the fron

not too heavy. great zoom. somewhat steep learning curve to fully understand all of the amazing features. This is a great Prosumer level camera. I am using it mainly for sports videos and weddings. The SD card memory is really nice to work with. Easy transfer to your computer. I have been looking to upgrade my old Sony and this camera has not disapointed me.

I make training videos for the healthcare industry and I bought this camera to replace a old industrial quality Sony DV Mini camcorder I bought about 6 years ago. I have to say the Canon G30 is twice as good as the Sony was at half the price! What I like best about the G30 is that via the menu you can control the speed of the zoom, so my camera moves between that and the great image stablization looks as smooth as any broadcast quality camera I have ever shot with. Also the G30 allows you to plug in an external mic and besides auto level audio, you have manual levels as well. Also the headphone volumn can be controlled. The picture quality is awesome and the auto exposure and auto white balance works so good, I just keep those in automatic, however you can manually adjust them as well. Also Canon cameras are the most user friendly with video editing programs and the G30 comes with import software that even makes the editing process quicker. I am extremely pleased with the camera and think it's perfect for the videos I make. Also the menu can be controlled by the remote control while the camera is in operation, so you can make adjustments to it while a on a tripod and not shake the camera! As well as the pull out LCD screen it has a standard viewfinder for shooting in extreme sun that is color as well.

Incredible 20X optical zoom and 400X digital zoom, true HD, dual slots allow incredible flexibility, touch screen easy to use and sensitive, more features and manual control options than I would expect and I consider myself a beginner neophyte videographer and I am not overwhelmed. This device sees better in low light than the human eye. Manual Is well written, easy to follow and we'll structured. For me the manual is a must to understand secondary controls and features that mid level and more experienced users are probably familiar. I bought this for making wild life videos. With no training, no reading, right out of the box I was able to use this device. First purchased the G20 and brought it back after one day of use. Nothing wrong with the G20, I just wanted the best for wild life amature video recording. The G20 didn't have the 20X zoom. Read the technical reviews, you tube and others. This is the best video for the price.

I love this new camera! It it very easy to use, and I was not sure about not having internal storage at first, but it is so convenient to just pop the sd cards into my card reader and not have to plug the camera in to the pc at all.
