Cat Power - What Would the Community Think - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

SUN is the new studio album from Cat Power. Six years after her last album of original material, Chan Marshall has moved on from her collaborative forays into Memphis soul and Delta blues. She wrote, played, recorded and produced the entirety of SUN by herself, a statement of complete control that is echoed in the songs themes. The narrative arc of the record is deeply American in it's spaciousness and optimism, but the music itself is defiantly modern and global.

The first album in four years from Chan Marshall one of the premier female singer/songwriters of today. Her richely complex vocal stylings and minor-key peotics have made her an indie superstar. You Are free is catchy, intense and beguiling.

Continuing her critically acclaimed journey into Jazz and Blues, InchSuit YourselfInch the new album from lauded vocalist Judith Owen, recorded at New Orleans' Esplanade Studios, resumes her trajectory of exploring and mining the lesser-known gems of these genres and turning them into musical powerhouses. Whether solo at the piano, accompanied by her jazz sextet or her contemporary big band, Judith's rich mellifluous voice seduces, and her interpretations thrill on songs like Aretha Franklin's InchEvil Gal BluesInch, Nellie Lutcher's InchFor you my LoveInch, and Etta James's InchSince I Fell For YouInch. Of special note is her duet with New Orleans luminary Davell Crawford on InchToday I Sing The BluesInch as well as the first single, the sexy and sophisticated, InchThat's Why I Love My BabyInch. Maestro Joe Bonamassa adds blistering guitar on InchMind Is On VacationInch while the Tonya Boyd-Cannon Choir joins Judith to bring it all back home on the Gospel-inflected InchInside OutInch.
