About this product

Ormindo is the third melodrama to have been born of the collaboration between librettist Giovanni Faustini and composer Francesco Cavalli (1602-76). The plot tells the story of two pairs of lovers (Erisbe and Ormindo, Sicle and Amida) as they experience reversals of fortune, disguise and a fictive death, all of which culminates in the agnizione of Ormindo as Hariadeno's long-lost son in an incomparable coup de theatre. In Ormindo, as in the majority of Venetian operas from the same period, all is wagered upon the expressive power of the voices. The symphonies and ritornelli, sometimes merely sketched out in the score and left to be completed by the singers during performance, have the role of giving body to the fine texture of the character's monologues and dialogues. InchThis vivid performance has plenty of dramatic conviction... This engaging performance by Les Paladins is an important part of a patchy discography. (Gramophone) Album Tracks 1. Prologo Atto Primo 1. Atto Secondo Atto Terzo

Cavalli - Messa a Quattro Voci Et Salmi 2 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Monteverdi's sacred vocal compositions introduced the expression of powerful and personal emotions to the world of church music. While it took him a number of years to find fulfillment in his work, Monteverdi was a revered composer within his lifetime and his music is regarded as revolutionary, marking the change from the Renaissance style to that of the Baroque. This album includes some of the finest works from Monteverdi's years as director of music at St Mark's in Venice, published posthumously in 1650 as the 'Messa a quattro voci et salmi.' InchPure- and vintage- Monteverdi, starting with a Dixit Dominus and ending, grandly with a version of Beatus Vir, using material we know from the familiar one. Francesco Cavalli (1602-76) is a central figure in the history of 17th c. Italian music. His 1675 collection of Vesperi a 8 voci, dedicated to the Doge Niccolò Sagredo, consisting of three different Vespers, is here offered in world premiere recordings by the InchLa PifareschaInch Instrumental Ensemble, the InchClaudio MonteverdiInch Choir of Crema, led by Bruno Gini, it's founder and conductor, and organist Alberto Dossena.
