About this product
2016 Grammy® Winner for Best Improvised Jazz Solo on Cherokee. This record is the fruit of McBride's long association with the Vanguard, where his first appearance as a leader for the historic club was in 1995. In 2007, the bassist and charismatic club owner Lorraine Gordon started an annual one-week residency, which featured McBride's quintet, Inside Straight. InchLorraine enjoyed my trio and my quintet, Inside Straight. We had such large crowds, so after a few years with such supportive audiences, we added an extra week. Instead of doing the same band for two weeks, I just started bringing in a different band. This has been an ongoing relationship that I look forward to maintaining as long as I can.Inch

Jawn [jän] noun. A slang terminology from Philadelphia. All-purpose term for a person, place or thingIf there's one thing the acclaimed bassist knows, it's that when it comes to grit there's no better resource to draw from than his own hometown, Philadelphia. So, McBride turned to one of the city's most beloved colloquialisms to christen his project, Christian McBride's New Jawn. On the band's eponymous debut, these four stellar musicians ably walk the razor's edge between thrilling virtuosity and gut-punch instinctiveness.

The Movement Revisited A Musical Portrait of Four Icons is culminating documentation of a richly inspired piece - lauding four key figures of the Civil Rights Movement Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, Rosa Parks and Muhammad Ali. Marshaling his ever-sharpening skills as a composer, arranger, conductor, musician and lyricist, Christian McBride has created a historically and culturally illuminating five-part suite for an 18-piece big band, chorus and narrators that places the motivating forces as well as the goals of the Civil Rights Movement within a powerfully relevant artistic context. It is a one-from-the-heart project McBride was, apparently, destined to undertake. This recording of The Movement Revisited marks the addition of a fifth movement, InchApotheosis,Inch which acknowledges the election of Barack Obama as the first African American President of the United States. Bringin' It, the highly anticipated which follows the Christian McBride Big Band's 2011 GRAMMY® Award-winning debut, The Good Feeling, puts his status and skills as an all-around entertainer on full display. If it is true that jazz is a sponge for musicians to absorb and then squeeze out what they hear to produce their own sound, McBride has been Inchbringin' itInch for quite a long time. From his amazing quintet, Inside Straight; to his avant-garde leaning quartet, New Jawn; the contemporary sound of his fusion group, A Christian McBride Situation; to the critically acclaimed music he's made with his trio, the bassist has always disseminated his own unique 360-degree view of jazz. Album Tracks 1. Gettin' to It 2. Thermo 3. Youthful Bliss 4. I Thought About You 5. Sahara 6. Upside Down 7. Full House 8. Mr. Bojangles 9. Used 'Ta Could 10.
