About this product
Welcome to the intimate and surreal world of Chuck and Danny. Reviewers have compared 'Chuck and Danny' to early They Might Be Giants, The Tinklers, 'Ween on codeine,' and King Missile, and have called it 'an appealing mix of spoken word/cabaret/Young Marble Giants/Joe Frank-esque drama,' and have picked up on 'the Ken Nordine plus beats sensibility, not to mention Napoleon Dynamite dork-chic.' You of course will have your own associations. Because Chuck and Danny are now appearing in your head. Chuck and Danny didn't really mean for any of this to happen. They hadn't planned on making music together. But Chuck had just bought a little 4-track setup, and Danny had been plotting out songs in his head for some time. Danny, with no musical training, has an uncanny knack for layering melodic lines to support his wry observations, while Chuck, with too much musical training, was learning how to use his recording gear as they recorded, and proved to be the perfect enabler - er, producer - of Danny's vision. The lyrics are spoken, with some sung choruses, and are ironic yet personal, delivered by Danny in a voice that is alternately 'bratty, poignant, deadpan, naïve, snotty, and poetic.' The music is atmospheric but structured, with memorable hooks, and weaves an array of sparsely employed instruments and effects into a groove that combines Brian Eno/Laurie Anderson-like soundscapes with a Burt Bacharach/Brian Wilson attention to detail. The result is a low-key, lo-fi, otherworldly pop production. Their version of Melanie's 'Brand New Key' sums up their approach (and their 'unapologetic twerp factor'), stripping the song down to a repeated loping groove overlaid with Danny's deadpan reading of the lyric. Chuck and Danny have played to some acclaim at NYC performance spaces such as ABC No Rio, Dixon Place, and The Knitting Factory. The album has been popular at some college a

2017 . Chuck Berry, the father of rock 'n' roll, is releasing his first album in nearly 40 years, which is comprised mostly of new, original songs written, recorded and produced by the legend himself. Chuck was recorded in various studios around St. Louis and features Berry's longtime hometown backing group - including his children Charles Berry Jr. (guitar) and Ingrid Berry (harmonica), plus Jimmy Marsala (Berry's bassist of 40 years), Robert Lohr (piano), and Keith Robinson (drums) - which has supported him for over two decades on over two hundred residency shows at the famed Blueberry Hill club. InchThis record is dedicated to my beloved Toddy,Inch said Berry, referring to his wife of 68 years, Themetta Berry. InchMy darlin' I'm growing old! I've worked on this record for a long time. Now I can hang up my shoes!Inch

Fans of Scottish indie rock know Tracyanne Campbell from her time spent writing and singing songs for Camera Obscura, the charming group whose five LPs to date carry on the tradition of chiming Scottish pop. And anyone who loves beautifully melancholy acts like The Smiths and Lloyd Cole should already be aware of Crybaby, the masterfully crafted, eponymous 2012 album recorded by Bristol singer-songwriter Danny Coughlan. The lyrics on the tight, ten-song Tracyanne & Danny, the duo's self-titled debut record, draw from deep within their own experiences, from Campbell's steel-guitar-accented InchAlabama,Inch a reflection on the life of her late friend and bandmate Carey Lander (InchIt was important to make it sound joyous,Inch she says), to Coughlan's peppy InchCellophane Girl,Inch a song about his adolescent infatuation with a co-worker at a plastics factory. Inspired by a variety of artists including Serge Gainsbourg, The Style Council, Lou Reed, The Roches, and Dion, Tracyanne & Danny is vibrant, melodic, musical, and at times, even murdery.
