Circus Devils' entire mind-bending catalogue is represented here, including three songs from the brand new album. While the emphasis is on friendlier numbers, plenty of the trio's prog psychedelia is also on display. Circus Devils was founded in 2001 by Robert Pollard, best known as the lead singer and songwriter of the Dayton, Ohio, band Guided by Voices. The band consists of Pollard (vocals and lyrics), Todd Tobias (music and production), and Tim Tobias (music). Circus Devils employs a wide spectrum of musical styles ranging from acid rock to ambient soundscapes. On the band's web site, the music is described as Inchgarage-prog, or Inchart rock made by cave men.Inch

While Carvalho is constantly reminiscent of the days of Gilberto's samba, he is never trying to emulate the sound entirely. It's his own take on the basic framework of samba... an outstanding example of a contemporary piece of mood music. Brazilian composer & guitarist Marco de Carvalho brings together his longtime musical family for a set of thoughtful and introspective originals. A graduate of the Brazilian Music Conservatory, Marco was taught by Juarez Carvalho, whom he considers his greatest mentor of the guitar. Originally from Rio de Janeiro, he now resides Seattle.

In 2001, Robert Pollard and the brothers Tobias formed Circus Devils and veered off the pop highway and straight into a deep hole, where they mingled with nursery rhyme characters of the future, invisible present-day-villains and heroes and the ghosts of rock-and-roll past. Circus Devils incorporates a musical alchemy of hard rock and soft rock, ugliness and beauty, tension and ambience, eerie moods, stories, humor and rock opera theatrics, ruesulting in a strangely coherent cinematic music experience.
