As an old school Contra fan, I was excited to hear that a reboot was coming. However after playing the game, I wondered why it took so long. First off the frame rate seems to be off, when there is heavy action onscreen there appears to be slow down and clipping on the characters. Second the upgrade system is a bit confusing, although I've just gotten to where I can expand on some skills, but there's so many options it's easy to get lost. Other than that I love the gameplay, simple run and gun that can be played couch coop or online. Can't speak to the online portion as I've yet to try. But about 3 levels in and I can say I'm having fun with this one.

this game is getting a lot of hate online from contra fans. i been playing contra since the original so i like to think i'm more than qualified to judge contra games. first lets get one thing out of the way, the graphics. this has been the main point of contention among fans of contra. yes, the graphics kinda suck. this game looks like an early ps2 game. Neo Contra looks a lot better than this game. if you're going to pass on this game based on poor graphics alone, you're doing yourself and this franchise a disservice. if you can get pass the "bad" graphics, which imo isn't THAT bad, the game is very fun to play. after all, contra is all about the gameplay, not how pretty it looks. i been playing this game for hours and i have been enjoying it so far. the only thing i don't like is that your weapons will overheat so you need to be careful not to overuse your weapons. there are upgrades you can buy to reduce the cool down time. imo, contra is a game about Run and Gun and i don't know why your weapons need to overheat. besides this, the gameplay is very fun. it's good for people who want a quick pick up and game type game. it won't waste your time and you will get right into the action, which i prefer. story is weak but c'mon, this is contra, in contra games, story takes a backseat to the gameplay. this game plays very similar to Neo Contra. you control your character w/the left stick and aim with the right stick. this type of game is commoning called "twin stick shooters," similar to games like Smash TV or Robotron. another thing i like to mention is the awesome case art. i love the cover art for this game. not too bad for Konami. on the reverse side of the cover is another great art work. most other switch games would be blank but konami decided to put great art work on every inch of real estate. cool stuff. great for collecting. is this the best contra game? no. imo if you want great contra games go play the original contra games on the NES, play Alien Wars on the SNES, then go play Shattered Soldier and Neo Contra on the ps2. is this game worth $40, imo yes. my shoes that i'm wearing right now that i bought from payless shoes cost more than this game. $40 isn't much. go buy this game! it's fun, nevermind the ps2 graphics, the gameplay is fun. if you want konami to make more contra games then buy this game.

Yes this game does have inferior graphics regardless of what platform and somewhat resembles a mobil game. And no it is not a side scrolling run and gun like we all know and love of the Contra franchise. But all of that aside, the cut scenes and story is unique with continuity to Alien Wars, the characters are interesting and the gameplay is actually fun. I will admit the platforming in the game is a little problematic at times but not broken. If you see and play the game for what it is without preconceived visions of what this Contra game SHOULD be in your minds and keep an open mind I think this is a great video game. Give it a try if it goes on sale below the retail price of $39.99 Or better yet download the demo on your respective platforms and try it out first like I did. I think you may enjoy it.

Good game with lots of fun, inclusive of local multiplayer. Decent graphics but game could have been made with lower age rating and hit a larger audience. Especially considering this is on the switch.

From right off the bat, graphics are inferior to the other consoles but if your like me that wants to play on the go, then i would recommend the switch version. Gameplay is fun, haven't experience any issues. If you got some friends to play with, it's a great couch coop game. Its not the traditional contra game (respectively) that we know and love but its a fun game nonetheless.

This game has received a negative reaction since it doesn't have too much in common with previous Contra games, but on its own it isn't so bad. It's more of a third-person / top-down shooter, and there is a loot system to collect money and parts to create better gear. There's still lots of shooting and swarms of enemies to defeat, plus it can be played with up to 4 players in co-op local and online, which is the best way to play it. I will say the graphics are kind of poor, even with updates trying to improve things a bit, though other areas have been updated as well.

As a Contra fan, I was excited about playing it in Nintendo Switch. Game is great if you focus only on shooting, improving your character, and reviving your childhood memories. However, graphics are not that good as expected for a 2019 video game technology. If you don't care about graphics quality, game is awesome.

I was super excited to hear about a new Contra game on the Nintendo platform. Then I saw it and it looked like a toasted chocolate nugget on a roaster. It still looks like that. However I had to give it a chance since I grew up with Contra and Super C. The gameplay is actually not bad. It is a repetitive grinder but it's enough to keep you at least somewhat interested. The graphics I give an absolute Fail but the gameplay I'll give it a pass. I picked it up for 14.99 from best buy. For that price I'm ok with what I got. If i paid full price for this chocolate nugget looking adventure I wouldve been very displeased, but for 15 bucks...I'm ok with it.

This is definitely not like the old school Contra where it is a run 'n gun platformer. It is definitely a different style being a 3rd person shooter. However, it is still fun despite it being cheesy. And as the M rating shows, it definitely is not for the kiddos since it does contain some swearing. Would say it is a fun way to kill some time, especially with some friends.

The Contra games have been among my very favorites since the 1987 original. I knew that Rogue Corps looked very different from most of the previous games in the series, but being Contra, I still crossed my fingers and hoped for an enjoyable experience. Unfortunately, even after playing for a couple of hours, it's hard to get past 1) how slow the action seems to be, and 2) how frankly ugly the whole affair looks. The graphics don't even look HD. They're like something out of the PS2 era. The game starts promisingly with a comic book-style opening cinematic that looks great and is entertainingly presented, but it all goes downhill from there. The biggest hinderance to the gameplay is that your weapons have cooldowns, which is an entirely new and equally unwelcome addition to the series. Contra is about fast and ferocious running and gunning, and you shouldn't have to pause so your gun can cool down while you're being swarmed by enemies, especially when your secondary weapon overheats just as quickly. There are a number of character and weapon mods that can be purchased which will presumably lessen the pain of this misguided creative decision, but the modding system is almost impenetrably incomprehensible. At its very core, Rogue Corps can offer some brief bursts of action enjoyment. But it doesn't take long before you find yourself just wanting to play something else. A disappointing misstep for an iconic action series. At least it wasn't released for the standard full MSRP of most new games.

In my Contra 2D days on the Nintendo and Super Nintendo I could not get enough of it. Great 2 player fun. This one is not the contra of old. Different graphical style and perspective can make it feel like the ps1 contra's but otherwise this is a very original game with the Contra name and concept slapped onto it. May not be game of the year but for the right discounted price it still is a fun 2 player action game.

This game was not as bad as what I've heard or seen. Of course the graphics look like PlayStation 2 crap but the gameplay I really enjoyed. I definitely don't recommend someone paying 40 bucks for it. I think $15 to $20 will be acceptable price. But it was a fun game and I enjoyed it. I don't know if I could recommend it to a friend.

Rogue Corps tries to inject elements of modern shooters into the Contra formula. Things like gun customizing, multiplayer mode, and even character emotes! Early reviews were less than favorable but I am having a good time with the game.

I went against all odds and ordered this one at a discounted price so I can't complain. While it's not considered a real Contra game per se, I still enjoyed it playing for a couple of hours but don't pay retail for this game.

Its a pretty straight forward top down shooter. There are a few things that I would change like taking the name Contra off of it, the weapon cooldowns just to name a few. But I liked it and found myself playing it for hours.

While the cover art will throw off some and the gameplay isn’t what you grew up with; this is just silly nonsense that works. It feels like Contra to me and I’ve found enjoyment out of this quirky title.

It is definitely not the contra we all have grown to love and enjoy. If you are buying the game hoping it’s like the older games it’s not unfortunately. But what I have played I have enjoyed.

I wasn’t going in with high expectations for this “Contra” game since it was announced. The gameplay and graphics didn’t speak to me especially for the Contra Franchise. I purchased this game a few months ago and finally got to playing it. It’s not bad ... yea the graphics look like a PS2 games but the controls are good and it has a rpg element that keeps you playing. I can see why the price tag is 39.99 because there is replayability but still doesn’t justify the cash grab. Get this on sale and if you like twin stick shooters .... it’s a good catch. I’m happy with it. There is swearing in the cut scene so beware for young children playing.

I was ready for this game to launch and the controls make it just an Okay game. This feels A lot like the Kid Icarus game for the 3DS...The game and the concept are great but the Controls are Hand cramps and carpal tunnel city.
