Corb Lund - Dark Horses - VINYL LP

I've been wanting to make a record like this for a long time. The band, Franny and I produced it ourselves in my living room with no adults present. It's all acoustic, not an electric lick on the album... banjos and mandos and string basses and stripped-down drums. I put a ton of work into the tunes and I'm pretty proud of this batch. Had a little help from my old co-writing pal Jaida Dreyer on a couple, also wrote a good one with my screenwriter buddy, Brian Koppelman. Lots of gambling songs and lots of minor keys. And my band guys absolutely killed it too, they're all badasses. I'm dedicating the record to my old compadre, Ian Tyson, who passed away a few months back. I've named the album for him as well. 'El Viejo', or 'the old one' is what our mutual friend Tom Russell took to calling him in later years. The title track is a pretty special one for us. Horse Soldier! Horse Soldier! Was originally released in 2007, and will finally be back in print on vinyl for the first time outside of Canada. On this album, Lund took a turn from his previous writing topics and settled on one theme for this record historical military songs. InchThe Horse Soldier album apparently came out of left field for people,Inch said Lund. InchWe had just come off two straight gold records which both surprised me in terms of their commercial success. I just kept writing what I was feeling, and what I was feeling was a bunch of military history songs (apologies to Johnny Horton and Steve Earle). I'm really proud of sticking to my guns and releasing this album just how I envisioned it because to this day I have people tell me all the time that of all our records this is their favourite. It seems to be a very interesting mirror for the listener. Many people have told me they love it as an 'anti-war' record yet I've also had a ton of feedback from military guys, retired and active, who appreciate the acknowledgement of their work. I don't know, maybe it's both. I didn't really have an agenda in mind at all when I wrote it other than presenting a bunch of war stories from different perspectives.InchThis limited edition is part of the Corb Lund - Dark Horses Club. Vinyl LP pressing. InchSongs My Friends Wrote is an album I've been threatening to make for years. It's a bunch of tracks that are my versions of a bunch of songs my friends wrote. I'm fortunate to count a lot of world class songwriters as good pals and I wanted to shine a little light on some of my favorite examples of their work. In most cases I've picked relatively obscure songs that have always spoken to me, even though many of them won't be so familiar to people. The best part about recording all these tunes was that they reminded me of all the people who I haven't been able to hang out with for the past two years because of the plague we've all been dealing with.
