This brand new 1/48 scale diecast model features the Bristol F-2B Fighter Aircraft "A7194, Capt. Arthur H Peck & Capt. John JL Williams, No.111 Squadron, Egypt" (1917) from the Royal Flying Corps, part of "The Aviation Archive" Series by Corgi. The limited edition model comes in its original unopened packaging and includes a detailed exterior, true-to-scale features, a display stand, and two pilot figures in the cockpit. Constructed from diecast metal and plastic, it offers durability and a realistic, substantial feel, with dimensions of approximately 6.5 inches in length and 9.75 inches in wingspan. The model is highly detailed and accurate, featuring realistic panel lines, antennas, access panels, and surface details that faithfully replicate the real aircraft, making it ideal for collectors and military aviation enthusiasts. Historically, the Bristol F-2B was developed as an effective replacement for the RFC's BE2c reconnaissance aircraft, which had struggled against German Fokker Eindeckers. Designed by Frank Barnwell, a qualified RFC pilot with combat experience, the aircraft was built to be both defensively capable and offensively effective. The prototype Bristol Type 12 (F.2A) first flew on 9 September 1916, powered by a 190hp Rolls Royce Falcon I engine, demonstrating impressive performance that led to production orders and deployment with No.48 Squadron in April 1917 at the Battle of Arras. The F.2B variant, equipped with the more powerful 285hp Rolls Royce Falcon III engine, offered a top speed of 123 mph and excellent climbing ability, making it a nimble and formidable fighter despite its relatively large size. Well-trained crews could maintain offensive pressure on enemy aircraft, turning engagements in their favor and achieving numerous aerial victories. By November 1918, over 5,500 Bristol Fighters had been ordered, with 4,747 ultimately produced by the close of production in September 1919, cementing the F.2B's legacy as a highly capable and influential combat aircraft during World War I.
