About This Item

Brand new 1/48 scale diecast model of the Eurofighter Typhoon FGR.4 Fighter Aircraft "RAF No.11 Squadron, Operation Ellamy, Gioia del Colle Air Base, Italy" (2011) Royal Air Force from *The Aviation Archive* Series by Corgi, this limited edition collectible comes in a brand new box and features a detailed exterior, true-to-scale detail, missile accessories, a pilot figure in the cockpit, and includes a display stand. It is an officially licensed product in the manufacturer’s original unopened packaging, with dimensions approximately Length-13 and Wingspan-9 inches. Constructed from diecast metal and plastic, it offers durability and a heavy, realistic feel, featuring authentic panel lines, antennas, access panels, and surface details for an accurate representation of the real-life airplane, making it perfect for collectors and military history enthusiasts. Now a familiar sight in Britain’s skies, the Eurofighter Typhoon entered service in 2006 as a dedicated air superiority fighter but has since developed into a true multi-role aircraft, equally capable of reconnaissance, precision ground strikes, and defending British airspace. Continuously upgraded since its introduction, it remains one of the world’s most advanced swing-role combat aircraft and the backbone of the Royal Air Force. In early 2010, ten Typhoons from RAF No. XI Squadron were deployed to Gioia del Colle Air Base in Southern Italy as part of Operation Ellamy, Britain’s contribution to Operation Unified Protector, enforcing a UN resolution to protect civilians during the Libyan civil war. Initially tasked with enforcing a no-fly zone, the Typhoon completed its first combat mission on 21st March 2011, patrolling Libyan skies and keeping the Libyan Air Force grounded. As coalition forces suppressed Libyan air defenses, Typhoons transitioned to ground attack missions, working alongside Tornado GR.4 aircraft in tandem strike operations. With their advanced radar and communications systems, Typhoons coordinated with Tornados, carrying precision-guided munitions and striking Libyan armor for the first time operationally on 12th April 2011. Often flying with reduced air-to-air missile loads to save weight and fuel, they demonstrated their growing versatility and combat maturity. By the end of their deployment in September 2011, RAF Typhoons had completed 578 sorties and flown more than 3,000 hours, proving their effectiveness and cementing their status as one of the world’s premier combat aircraft.
