Cory Weeds - Day By Day - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

2025 . Cellar Music boss Cory Weeds returns with another fine recording backed by the dependently swinging rhythm section of frequent Cellar Music players (pianist Miles Black, bassist John Lee, and drummer Jesse Cahill) and alongside the famously big horn of Jerry Weldon! Weeds is an accomplished and highly stylized tenor man cut from the swinging cloth of Gene Ammons, Sonny Rollins, Dexter Gordon, and George Coleman. On 'Meets Jerry Weldon', this winning formula continues. This recording is not sheepish about acknowledging it's two-tenor front line influences. Right out of the gate, listeners are treated to the hard driving Eddie InchLockjawInch Davis InchBody and SoulInch (with a dominant bridge) contrafact, InchHey Lock,Inch that, like the composer himself, is associated with two-tenor battles; in this case between Davis and Chicago's InchLittle Giant,Inch Johnny Griffin. And it is that same spirit of collegial competitiveness that comes when two masters of the instrument join forces with the shared purpose of swinging listeners into next week that permeates not only those seminal tenor-battle recordings from years past, but this wonderful new 2025 . Album Tracks 1. Hey Lock 2. Princess 3. Toy 4. Olé 5. Just As Though You Were Here 6. Oh Lady Be Good 7. I Had the Craziest Dream 8. One Flight Down 9. 323 Shuter

A beautiful vinyl pressing of Zorns most delightful and popular instrumental unit The Dreamers performing nine compositions inspired by the imaginary worlds of fantasy literature. Featuring some of Zorns catchiest hooks and plenty of fiery solos from Ribot, Saft and Wollesen, Pellucidar blends soul, surf, jazz, minimalism, rumba, tango, samba, exotica and more in classic Dreamers style.

In the summer of 2021, I put together the quartet on this recording for a gig at Frankie's Jazz Club in Vancouver, BC. It was one of those nights where everything came together in every aspect. Club was packed with an appreciative and enthusiastic audience, the band was fired up and ready to go and most importantly my dear friend and supporter of jazz Yvonne DeTroye was at her usual perch taking in the festivities. When we were packing up, she approached me as she usually does to tell me how wonderful the band sounded AND that should we ever decide to record she would be more than happy to lend financial support. My first thought was Inchthe world does not need another Cory Weeds record,Inch but as things usually go when someone plants a seed I start thinking, plotting and strategizing. Around this time, I had just taken the Presidents role at The Fraser MacPherson Jazz Fund and I started thinking about how we could use this recording as a fundraiser. After 18 months of a pandemic the fund was basically depleted and needed to increase it's fundraising efforts and create some awareness. Bingo! I had my solution!Yvonne donated to the FMJF to produce this CD and 100% of the proceeds from the sales (in all formats) benefit The Fraser MacPherson Jazz Fund. Album Tracks 1. Just Coolin' 2. Beep Durple 3. Chicken N' Dumplins 4. Bitter Sweet 5. We Three 6. Street Scenes 7. Vendetta 8. Night Walk
