With one album of cello sonatas by Giovanni Battista Costanzi behind him, Giovanni Sollima has decided to provide further proof of how Costanzi has hitherto been a woefully neglected but exciting compositional voice from that nebulous period between Baroque and Classical. With this new of Sinfonie per violoncello from Glossa, Sollima demonstrates once more the melodic inventiveness and harmonic liberty to which Costanzi was given together with a virtuoso's capacity to relish the technical demands imposed by a Roman musician who was clearly also a star player on the instrument himself. Together with the Arianna Art Ensemble Sollima has recorded five sinfonias for clelo and contiuo, and a sonata for two cellos by Costanzi where he is joined once again by Monka Leskovar. If the four-movement sonata da chiesa structure favored by Corelli is still apparent in some of these sinfonias, there is a greater openess to the galante style and influences coming from elsewhere in Europe and from across Italy, for all that Costanzi may have no ventured far outside the Eternal City. A new composition by Sollima himself - another cellist-composer - takes off from Costanzi's almost programmatic Sonata for two cellos, Inchad uso di corni da cacciaInch.

The premiere of Nabucco at La Scala, Milan in 1842 was a huge success for Verdi and soon led to foreign performances of the work. For it's appearance in Brussels under the name Nebuchodonozor Verdi fashioned an orchestral Divertissement which was inserted into Act III; the composer's score of this, performed here, has only very recently been rediscovered. MacBeth is one of his psychologically penetrating masterpieces and for it's Parisian staging in 1865 it underwent considerable revision, notably to make it's dramatic development more incisive. When Il trovatore was performed in Paris as Le Trouvère Verdi added lively local color as new additions to the score.

This volume is the most recent, curated in 2019 by it's current director of recordings, Scott Miller. SEAMUS is a non-profit national organization of composers, performers, and teachers of electro-acoustic music. Electro-acoustic music is a term used to describe those musics that are dependent on electric technology for their creation and/or performance. SEAMUS strives to address not only relevant technology but also the non-technical issues of aesthetics, collaboration, education and ethical/social issues pertinent to the electro-acoustic music community. Composers featured on this include Kyong Mee Choi, Brian Topp, Akiko Hatakeyama, Robert McClure, Chi Wang, Lucas Marshall Smith, Fang Wan, and Caroline Louise Miller.
