About this product
Cuffed Up have a knack for distilling big dreams into sound. Their debut album All You Got, tipped at KEXP, Paste Magazine, FLOOD Magazine and more is available as a eco-mix vinyl via Hit the North Records. It is filled with dreams of bigger stages, a more open heart and a more equitable society-in short, dreams that are swiftly dismissed as naive. For this Los Angeles three-piece, InchanthemicInch is not just an apt descriptor of their sound, it's an ethos. In every swelling chorus, ardent guitar riff and rich cascade of cymbals is a seed of hope that things will take a turn for the better. After all, this band has been to hell and back, whether it's multiple lineup changes, industry roadblocks or a global pandemic, and they're used to being written off as starry-eyed.

The House That Man Built was originally recorded and mixed at Southern Studios, North London in 1981 and released in 1982 on CRASS Records. Engineered by John Loder under the watchful eye of Crass' Penny Rimbaud (credited as Elvis Rimrod!) Conflict wasted no time stating their intent as the opening song, 'Conflict' charged into life with a razor wire guitar strike with Jerwood bellowing 'CONFLICT!' as the band revved into life. Primal basic and raw as F**k, these early Conflict tracks are the sound of the band getting to know their instruments, reveling in the freedom and expression of their sound. Penny and John did a fantastic job in harnessing Conflict's youthful energy and the single was an instant hit amongst the flourishing anarcho-punk movement. A few years ago following the passing of John Loder, the original multi track tapes were returned to the band. Colin and Gav King (Conflict guitarist of the past 18 years) sent the tapes off to be 'baked' and digitised with the intent of remixing them once their new album was complete and released. Unfortunately Colin passed away before that could happen but Gav King continued with the task of remixing the tracks that were recorded 45 years earlier. Included in the box were the original mixes on ¼inch tape so Colin's lifelong close friend, Sid Truelove of Rubella Ballet, agreed to remaster them. Includes original 'Disarm or Die' sticker.

FROM / HOME contains loss and grief A funeral, love lost, and a dense, confusing loneliness. There's also a lot of joy and gratitude. Strewn across the sparse, guitar-driven arrangements are sounds sampled from phone videos of friends. Emmy calling out InchGod, what a skyInch while taking off on a boat out on the lake on a bright summer night. Bandmates complimenting each other after a good run-through of a new song. Two pairsof feet in tandem making a steady beat against the gravel road while on a walk. Writingand recording these songs became a way to manifest and echo human connection from a place of solitude. The music draws heavily on Americana and folk traditions, but also immerses itself in indie and post-rock elements with ambient delays, thick reverbs and layers of loopings in live performances. Nothing should have had such a big impact on H. B. Nielsen's music as the diversity of his traveling years. Musically, it's easy to draw to mind the countrymen DanielNorgren, who equally independently and earthily conveys the folk blues of today, and fingerpicking folk-giant The Tallest Man On Earth.
