New liner notes by Jason King, including interviews with Pino Palladino, Charlie Hunter, James Poyser, Alan Leeds, and Russ Elevado. Voodoo was the second album by D'Angelo and followed-up his hit album Brown Sugar. Recording sessions for the album took place during 1998 to 1999 at Electric Lady Studios in New York City, featuring an extensive line-up of musicians associated with the Soulquarians musical collective. Produced primarily by D'Angelo, Voodoo features a loose, groove-based funk sound and serves as a departure from the more conventional song structure of Brown Sugar. In 1995, D'Angelo - born Michael Eugene Archer and Virginia-raised to a Pentecostal preacher father - made an undeniable impact on the music world with the of his four-time Grammy Award nominated debut album Brown Sugar, ushering in a new and inescapable neo-soul sound with classic hits such as the album title track, InchLady,Inch InchCruisin,Inch and more. The multi-talented artist handled nearly all of the production, instrumentation, arrangements, songwriting and vocals on the acclaimed 10-track stunner and strategically positioned himself as the next Hendrix-like deity in black music, after Prince and Lenny Kravitz. A Hollywood stunt performer who moonlights as a wheelman discovers that a contract has been put on him after a heist gone wrong. The soundtrack features original music by Cliff Martinez (The Lincoln Lawyer, Traffic) with Eurosynth-styled songs by Kavinsky and Lovefoxxx ('Nightcall'), The Chromatics ('Tick of the Clock'), Desire ('Under Your Spell'), College featuring Electric Youth ('A Real Hero'), and Riziero Ortolani featuring Katyna Ranieri ('Oh My Love'). Rolling Stone Magazine named Drive the #1 movie of 2011. The Drive soundtrack raced to the top of the iTunes album charts, hitting #4 within a week of it's digital and peaking at #35 on the Billboard Top 200.
