This is a story about a struggle for power in old Denmark, and a magnificent opera about events which led to the murder of King Erik Clipping in 1286. To present this dramatic episode from Danish history, a power play rooted in love, jealousy and honor, Heise composed gripping music with a razor-sharp dramatic sense and great lyrical beauty. It is Danish romance at it's most powerful and immediate. Drot og Marsk has been called Inchthe best opera of the 17th CenturyInch. The opera was composed in the years 1876-77 to a libretto by Christian Richardt and had it's premiere at the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen in 1878 and was quickly established as part of the theatre's regular repertoire. Drot og Marsk is amongst the most frequently performed Danish operas.

With his symphonies, the Danish composer Rued Langgaard offered 16 vastly different versions of what a symphony can be. His captivating, complex genius made room for all conceivable idioms and a wealth of styles ranging from the grandiosely Late Romantic to the purest Absurdism. Brahms was 43 years old when, after a long period of maturation, his First Symphony was published. The Second Symphony is traditionally seen as the pastoral element in the cycle, while the Third, with it's melodic beauty, has the courage to end quietly, an act of astonishing serenity. The compelling Passacaglia finale of the Fourth Symphony represents a fitting summation to one of the greatest symphonic cycles in the classical canon. The symphonies are only available in a box not separately. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the collaboration between Adam Fischer and the Danish Chamber Orchestra- so it's a 'Silver Wedding' recording. Fischer has called his relationship with the orchestra 'a musical marriage'.
