Danny Brown - Uknowhatimsayin - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

2016 . Atrocity Exhibition is one of the freshest and boldest-sounding rap albums in recent memory, a sonic swirl inspired by the work of Talking Heads and Joy Division that nonetheless sounds like nothing else from the past or present. Featuring contributions from producers like Evian Christ, Petite Noir (who also lends vocals to the world-weary clang of InchRolling StoneInch), Black Milk, the Alchemist and frequent collaborator Paul White, the album is full of laser-beam guitars, gym-teacher whistles, creaking vocal samples, and air-raid drones. It is the most intriguing take on hallucinatory rap since the heady heights of Cold Vein or Madvillainy. Known for his wide range of collaborations, including everyone from Purity Ring, the Avalanches and Rustie to Schoolboy Q, E-40, and Ghostface Killah, Atrocity Exhibition sees a continuation of this carefully curated mix. Kelela lends her snaking vocals to the intriguingly murky InchFrom the Ground,Inch Cypress Hill's B-Real delivers InchGet HiInch's languid hook, and Earl Sweatshirt, Kendrick Lamar, and Ab-Soul all convene for the twinkling ominousness of album standout InchReally Doe.Inch This album is a highly personal take on Brown's ruminations on life and the changes that have occurred -and those that didn't -following the ups and downs of career success. Atrocity Exhibition makes for a thrilling third installment in the Danny Brown biopic, one not to be missed.

2019 . Signs is the fourth studio from Tedeschi Trucks Band and offers another outstanding example of their ability to expand musical boundaries in ways that only a rare caliber of musician can achieve. Signs showcases the band at their best - combining inventive musicality and provocative lyrics across eleven original tracks, running the gamut from uplifting soulful anthems, to bittersweet ballads and driving rock and roll. The album was recorded at Derek and Susan's home studio, Swamp Raga, on two-inch analogue tape giving it a warmth and richness that recalls the ambience of the best vintage recordings.

As the intro notes, InchQuarantaInch is Italian for Inchforty.Inch According to Brown, Quaranta is the spiritual sequel to XXX, his breakout album released on Fool's Gold in 2011, that infamously cataloged a life lived on the edge at thirty. The whirlwind of parties, tours, collaborations and achievements that followed that landmark seemed to fly by fast-ten years later, when COVID-19 brought the world to a halt, Brown found himself in downtown Detroit, living alone for the first time ever. After years of escapist escapades, he was forced to adjust to the stillness and silence, and the bars on Quaranta are diaristic in a distinctly Danny Brown way. First-person scenes from Brown's early childhood and family arrive vividly on InchYBPInch; he tears into rising rents for two-bedrooms and new gourmet shops that now litter downtown Detroit on InchJenn's Terrific VacationInch; and regret-filled reflections on a near fifteen-year rap career add depth throughout the project. There's no shortage of Brown's typical blitzing verses over angular, mesmerizing production from some of his oldest collaborators including Quelle Chris, Paul White & SKYWLKR, but the Alchemist produced InchTantorInch is just the kind of cold-steel contradistinction which he's been celebrated throughout his career.1.
