Limited double 180 gram vinyl LP pressing. Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (The Motion Picture Soundtrack) is a live album that was housed in the David Bowie Five Years 1969-1973 box set. Ziggy Stardust The Motion Picture was recorded at the Hammersmith Odeon in London on 3 July 1973, although the album was not issued by RCA Records until 1983. Prior to that it had existed in bootleg form. The album documents the final show which Bowie performed in his Ziggy Stardust persona. Just before the final track, he announces, InchOf all the shows on this tour, this particular show will remain with us the longest, because not only is it the last show of the tour, but it's the last show that we'll ever do. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars is the fifth studio album by David Bowie, which is loosely based on a story of a fictional rock star named Ziggy Stardust. The album tells the story of Ziggy, a rock star who acts as a messenger for extraterrestrial beings. The album, and the character of Ziggy Stardust, was known for it's glam rock influences and themes of sexual exploration and social commentary. These factors, coupled with the ambiguity surrounding Bowie's sexuality and fuelled by a ground-breaking performance of InchStarmanInch on Top of the Pops led to the album being met with controversy and since hailed as a seminal work. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars has been consistently considered one of the greatest albums of all time, with Rolling Stone magazine ranking it the 35th greatest ever. Two of the tracks, InchZiggy StardustInch and InchSuffragette City,Inch had never been released as singles when Changesonebowie was issued, though the former had been the B-side of InchThe Jean GenieInch in November 1972 and the latter would be released as an A-side in July 1976 to help promote the compilation. The cover shot was taken by Tom Kelley, who took the famous nude calendar photographs of Marilyn Monroe on red velvet in 1949.
