Financed by Mercury on the strength of InchSpace OddityInch, the album was recorded from June to October 1969 at Trident Studios in London. Gus Dudgeon produced InchSpace OddityInch, while Tony Visconti produced the rest of the album. It's title and packaging followed the of RCA's earlier Bowie compilation, Changesonebowie released in 1976.
