Scriabin / Mussorgsky - Pictures at An Exhibition & Jazz Improvisations [COMPACT DISCS] date 11/18/2014

Ellen Andersson Quartet's debut album InchI'll Be Seeing YouInch is a disc that will not go anywhere unnoticed. The Quartet is a group of relatively common jazz composition vocals, guitar, bass, and drums, and makes standard songs in their own arrangements. The song material the great story-rate and emotional range, where playfulness meets big seriousness makes this an album listeners will adore. Ellen Andersson Quartet aims to find a middle ground where tradition can face the present, but also wants to do this without losing their integrity and personality. The group also wants to challenge the way in which many jazz vocalists relate to and participate in the music. The ensemble attaches great importance to each of the four musicians being on equal terms.

San Francisco Bay-area pianist Debbie Poryes brings a warm touch and personal approach to her new quartet recording. Supported by her longtime collaborators, drummer Dave Rokeach, bassist Bill Douglass, and saxophonist Bruce Williamson, Poryes's new album combines rhythmically sophisticated takes on standards like InchI've Got the Sun in the MorningInch with several of Poryes's own works, such as the harmonically luscious InchLake DreamInch and the gospel-tinged InchA Prayer for a Child.Inch InchA stellar outing that introduces a group that plays with an interactive verve and elegance a knockout listening experience.Inch - All About Jazz.
