Released in July 1971, it is widely regarded as the foundation of doom metal, stoner rock, and sludge metal. It was certified double platinum after having sold over 2 million copies. Master of Reality was Black Sabbath's first and only top 10 album in the US until 13 forty-two years later. Black Sabbath was formed in Birmingham in 1968 by guitarist and main songwriter Tony Iommi, bassist and main lyricist Geezer Butler, singer Ozzy Osbourne, and drummer Bill Ward. Black Sabbath is often cited as pioneers of heavy metal music. The band helped define the genre with a clutch of groundbreaking albums in the '70s. They have sold over 70 million records worldwide. It was recorded at Island Studios in London, United Kingdom and released in 1973. Desperado is a concept album, based on the themes of the Old West. Originally, Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Jackson Browne, and J. D. Souther were working on a series of songs about anti-heroes, but ran out of ideas after writing InchDoolin' DaltonInch and InchJames DeanInch. The latter was shelved and they instead began to write songs from the themes established in InchDoolin' DaltonInch. The band members are featured on the album's cover dressed like an outlaw gang; Desperado remains the only Eagles album where the band members appear on the front cover. Although the title track is one of The Eagles' signature songs, it was never released as a single. The song InchDesperadoInch was ranked #494 on Rolling Stone '?s 2004 list of InchThe 500 Greatest Songs of All TimeInch. The album did yield two singles, though InchTequila SunriseInch and InchOutlaw ManInch. Those two singles reached #64 and #59 respectively.
