Destroyer - LABYRINTHITIS - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The band, Mugshots was formed in the east end of London in the early 1980s, revolving out of Easy Street Studios alongside other outfits such as 'Colors' and 'Wang Chung'.The original members were Terry Munday (guitar & vocals), John Bond (bass guitar & vocals), Russell Keefe (lead vocals & keyboard) and John Cavanagh (drums/vocals). John Bond left the band after their first single on United Artists, an 'A' side called 'Shy', with 'Don't Understand' on the 'B' side. Bond was replaced by David 'Plug' Rowe on bass in the final line-up. Music entrepreneurs and publishers Ben Nisbet and Ronnie Beck signed the band for publishing and recording and I became their manager at the time. By this time the guys were on the London circuit, performing their original and prolifically written tunes on a nightly basis and holding down their various day jobs. By 1983 some of the band members were forced to make a decision of whether to follow their day jobs and professions or to pursue a more serious career with all it's risks in the music industry at the time. This led to the band basically splitting up by 1984, although a splinter group called Yamajak, consisting of Terry Munday, Russell Keefe and Brin Paul Chimes was formed, which I also produced in 1984. The tracks are included on this album. The band were not only nice guys to work with, but were also very talented and prolific writers of material relating to life in the 1980s and projecting the future as they then saw things. You can certainly gauge their talent on these recordings.

On August 28, Destroyer returns with a new full-length, Poison Season. In addition, a two-song 12-inch that includes a remix of album track 'Forces From Above' and the orchestral version of 'Times Square, Poison Season' will be released as a companion to the record. Poison Season opens with Vancouver native Dan Bejar swathed in Hunky Dory strings.

Of his 12th studio album and it's enigmatic title, Destroyer's Dan Bejar offers the following Sometime last year, I discovered that the original name for InchThe Wild OnesInch (one of the great English-language ballads of the last 100 years or so) was InchKen.Inch I had an epiphany, I was physically struck by this information. In an attempt to hold on to this feeling, I decided to lift the original title of that song and use it for my own purposes. It's unclear to me what that purpose is, or what the connection is. I was not thinking about Suede when making this record. I was thinking about the last few years of the Thatcher era. Those were the years when music first really came at me like a sickness, I had it bad. Maybe InchThe Wild OnesInch speaks to that feeling, probably why Suede made no sense in America. I think InchkenInch also means Inchto know.Inch ken was produced by Josh Wells of Black Mountain, who has been the drummer in Destroyer since 2012. The album was recorded in it's entirety in the jam space/studio space that the group calls The Balloon Factory. However, unlike Poison Season, ken was not recorded as a InchbandInch record, though everyone in the band does make an appearance.
