Dexter Romweber - Blues That Defy My Soul - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

J. Sibelius - Vol. 2-Early Chamber Music [COMPACT DISCS] date 11/14/1995

With their preternatural ability to play with and play off of one another, Dex Romweber (Flat Duo Jets) and his sister Sara (Let's Active, Snatches of Pink) lay it out there with nothing to cover it up. And while many mistake 'stripped down' for 'easy' or 'simple' it takes a fearless mastery to pull the tortured blues out of the delta, the punk thunder out of rockabilly, and the deep, dark and glorious pathos out of cabaret. InchMixes and matches swampy Sun rockabilly, tom-tom surf instrumentals, dreamy doo-wop ballads, jangly country and cabaret from the boulevard of broken dreams.Inch - WINNIPEG SUN

Dex is nothing less than an icon of the American music underground. Pioneering the template for the stripped to-the-essentials guitar/drums duo in the world famous psycho-surf-rockabilly-garage-punk combo Flat Duo Jets, Dex forges ahead with this new album. With sister Sara on drums, the DRD is a potent combo that'll get your leg twitching & your heart racing -and sometimes breaking- with the feral excitement of music. In Dex, you have someone who burrows into the guts of American roots music with a uniquely alchemical mania; he's clearly bored with, or oblivious to, genre constraints.
