About this product

There are often instances where an artist's genius is not truly recognized until well after their passing. This is often due to the circumstances during his or her lifetime not being conducive to his or her discovery or widespread appeal. Such is the case of Baroque composer Domenico Scarlatti, who has only in the past century begun to be recognized as one of the period's greatest composers.Guitarist Diego Barber discovered Scarlatti's music through his mentor, and celebrated guitarist, Riccardo Gallén, who had Barber rapt with attention in a performance of Scarlatti's Sonata No. 27. After hearing vocalist Theo Bleckmann performing a Schubert lieder with Uri Caine, Barber decided to adapt Scarlatti's sonatas for guitar and voice, thus birthing his new recording, Scarlatti Sonatas.Domenico Scarlatti grew up in the shadow of his famous father, Italian opera composer Alessandro Scarlatti. The younger Scarlatti found his muse in Queen Barbara of Braganza, for whom he was her Court harpsichord master and musical teacher. One of Scarlatti's duties was to write new sonatas weekly. In Barbara's charge, Scarlatti moved to Lisbon, Sevilla, and Madrid, absorbing Portugal and Spain's folkloric music.Though he never wrote for the guitar, Scarlatti likely heard music for the instrument's predecessors, including the lute. Famously, Scarlatti was gifted a guitar from the King and heard a lute-based ode to a dying royal. Scarlatti was prolific at writing for the harpsichord, writing 555 harpsichord sonatas that are richly woven with genius melodies and dynamic rhythms. After discovering Scarlatti's music, Barber became fascinated with his story and his connection to Spain and guitar-like instruments. Barber has become well known for incorporating his classical guitar playing into the improvising realm of jazz. It was his attraction to improvised music that led him to collaborations wi

Radwan / Beethoven Academy Orch / Delekta - Theatre & Film Music - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The theatre music of Poland is a peculiar phenomenon; almost every Polish composer has created a score for the needs of this spectacle, and many have entirely devoted themselves to this field. This music is awarded and honored. Nevertheless, it practically does not exist in a concert or recording community. Stanislaw RADWAN is one of the best known and respected composers of theatre and film music. He composed several hundred pieces on commission of the most eminent Polish directors and all leading theatres in Poland. He linked a great part of his artistic path to Cracow starting from studies at the local State Higher School of Music in the class of Krzysztof Penderecki, through activities in the famous Kraków theatres, ending at the cooperation with the Piwnica pod Baranami cabaret. It is natural that a series of recordings of The Musical Trace of Cracow, documenting the theatre and film music of eminent artists from this full of theatres, writers, actors, directors, and composers city, opens an album dedicated to the work of Radwan.

Diego Barber - Drago - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

There is only one way to enhance one's performance and that is to practice until there is a level of confidence in act, and pride in the outcomes. Guitarist and composer Diego Barber seeks new challenges relentlessly. His pursuit of excellence in all his endeavors has led him to the extreme heights of classical guitar technique, contemporary composition and long-distance running, all of these requiring grueling regimens of focused study. // For his new recording, Drago, Barber departs from his recent focus on blending contemporary classical music and jazz to focus on electronic music, utilizing elements from both the classical and dancefloor models. A two-year long study of Logic music programming has led the fleet fingered string specialist to eschew the guitar for the most part to focus on composing pieces in a new and highly personal way. // The incredible music on Diego Barber's Drago is a departure from his typical output but it also shows the development of an artist who accepts musical challenges and finds exhilaration in chasing the unknown.

Diego Barber - One Minute Later - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

2017 . Barber's work utilizes his dual affinities for classical music and jazz. Having come from a strict classical guitar background, Barber's jazz playing has really blossomed since moving to New York. His composing bears witness to passions, as he writes in a classical style with jazz elements, creating a poetic blend of highly composed lyrical pieces that open up for the expressionism of jazz improvisation. For One Minute Later, Barber recruited an incredible rhythm section in bassist Ben Williams and drummer Eric Harland. Both musicians are incredible technicians and fantastic accompanists. Harland has made a name for himself as one of the most exciting and expressive drummers in jazz, while Williams has become a force because of his ultra clean tone and incredible groove. It was Barber's discovery of wunderkind percussionist Alejandro Coello that drove Barber to make this recording. Barber was introduced to Coello by friend and virtuoso classical guitarist Ricardo Gallén. Barber was astounded by the proficiency of the 25 year old from Salamanca, who had just begun to teach at Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt in Weimar, Germany (the youngest person to have done so).
