Dieter Kl cker - Clarinet Quintets - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The chamber music of Nicolas Clérambault (1676-1749) is characterized by expressivity, thematic inventiveness and a discreetly skillful way of composition. As in the previous production of the ensemble The Bach Players with compositions by Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre (COV 91815), this album contains little known works from the famous library of the composer and music writer Sébastien de Brossard (1655-1730), which were recorded here for the first time on historical instruments. With their lucid, performance-practically sound interpretation, the musicians manage to give the music an appealing freshness. The Bach Players is a group of singers and players known for their engaging programmes of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century music. According to needs, the ensemble varies in size from three to twenty-five musicians. In their concerts The Bach Players make links between composers, national styles, and developments in music - to provide a wider context in which to present the famous composers of the time. They play on original instruments, and all vocal music is sung in it's original language.

With Swing On This, the all-star quintet Opus 5 presents it's fifth Criss Cross album, and first since 2015, when Criss-Cross released Tickle [Criss 1383), which itself was preceded - in backwards chronology - by Progression [Criss 1369], Pentasonic [Criss 1351], and Introducing Opus 5 [Criss 1339], each recorded a year apart. The Inchall starInch sobriquet is not an exaggeration - the collective discographies of trumpeter Alex Sipiagin, tenor saxophonist Seamus Blake, pianist David Kikoski, bassist Boris Kozlov, and drummer Donald Edwards, all international first-callers, total more than 30 Criss Cross leader dates. The Album was recorded September 7, 2021 at the Samurai Hotel Recording Studio in NY. Recording engineer Mike Marciano who also did the editing, mixing and mastering at Systems Two in NY.
