Dionysos Now! - Adriano 4 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Dionysos Now! Contributes to the preservation of cultural heritage by presenting musical works that have not been widely heard or performed for centuries. ore Tom Denys, the artistic leader of the ensemble, has done a scholarly exploration of the compositions that pay tribute to Adriaen Willaert to creatate this collection of musical pieces.

After Things to Come, his most famous film score, Arthur Bliss composed the soundtrack scores of CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS and MEN OF TWO WORLDS, two dramatic pictures which are largely forgotten today. Their music, however, enlivened by Spanish and African rhythms respectively, is colourful and interesting enough to be revived in the form of concert suites. Men of Two Worlds contains BARAZA, a miniature concert piece for piano and orchestra (like Addinsell’s “Warsaw Concerto” from Dangerous Moonlight, Bax’s Oliver Twist, Rózsa’s Spellbound and Herrmann’s “Concerto Macabre” from Hangover Square), with additional male choir. The three orchestral pieces from SEVEN WAVES AWAY are another real discovery and if anything even more deserving of concert performances than the two earlier scores.

Years ago; Tony Alonso composed a simple Gospel Acclamation based on the tune LAMBILLOTTE (InchAlleluia Song of the SpiritInch). Song of the Spirit Mass fully extends this tune-based approach to all of the sung portions of the Mass. It features a driving; rhythmic piano part. However; to accommodate a range of contexts; it also includes an alternate accompaniment with more intentional melodic support that is suitable for organ. With the joyful exuberance of the tune at it's core; Song of the Spirit Mass is especially well-suited to Easter and Ordinary Time.
