Ditte Andersen - Mia Vita Mio Bene - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Dick Nights - Tonstartssbandht Fire Talk is proud to present three early Tonstartssbandht albums reissued on color vinyl for the first time. InchDick NightsInch is a snapshot from the earliest days of the Florida brother's vast catalog that provides a distinct starting point from which the band has journeyed. Through years of constant touring, the duo's songs have both taken shape and changed shape, yet maintained their long, languid tendencies, full of open musical questions and temporary answers. Far from what FADER calls Inchpsychedelia's most intriguing upstarts,Inch the band's Inchtime-warped explosion of folksy jams designed to transport you out of this worldInch (Pitchfork) have become their own distinct object. Each reissue provides a photograph that perfectly encapsulates Tonstartssbandht at a single moment in their evolution. Now critically-acclaimed statesmen who staked out their own territory in the underground music of the early aughts, the reissued recordings feel both transcendent and intimate, a portal into a lineage of music that feels laden with possibility and exploratory wonder.

Norwegian composer Morten Gaathaug has largely worked in a landscape influenced by the classical music tradition. He has not regarded his task as that of inventing his own musical language, but prefers rather to find inspiration in experiments with form and in using the old language in new ways. Important sources of inspiration are traditional folk music (from Norway and abroad), as well as impressions from nature, birdsong in particular. The latter can be found in works such as InchFugler I min nattInch (InchBirds in My NightInch), Inch24 fugleportretterInch (Inch24 Bird PortraitsInch) for piano, and InchOrnis musicalis.Inch Gaathaug has devoted special attention to particular turn-of-the-century artistic currents around 1900 associated with composers Sergei Prokofiev and Borghild Holmsen, as well as with poets such as Ragnhild Jolsen, Rainer Maria Rilke, and Sigbjorn Obstfelder. This was a period of upheaval, in which modernism pushed forward with many new forms of artistic expression. Yet at the same time, it was important to maintain a connection to the past, renewing the traditional tonal foundation. On this recording Norwegian mezzo-soprano Marianne E. Andersen gives a performance of Gaathaugs works with lyrics by Jolsen, Rilke and Obstfelder.
