About this product
With her new album, State of Matter, acclaimed Polish cellist and composer Dobrawa Czocher pushes her artistry into new territories. Composed amidst a move from Warsaw to the Baltic coast, surrounded by the ocean's horizon and dense forestry, the album reflects curiously on what lies beyond and embracing the unknown. It is an ode to the courage to grow through uncertainty. The music unfolds as a journey of emotional phases, a narrative arc from the internal introspective questioning of InchMonologue,Inch to a sonic leap into motion with the rhythmic propulsion of InchBlueInch, and the cyclical farewell in InchGoodbyeInch. Known for her atmospheric, emotionally rich compositions, Czocher has expanded her sound world, while holding true to her classical roots. She uses percussive cello techniques, Moog synthesizers, non-analog electronics, and her own voice instrumentally and without lyrics, creating a texture of expression. Recorded at the historic Studio S4 at Polish Radio in Warsaw with engineer Mateusz Danek, State of Matter balances technical craft with expressive spontaneity, it's driven by Czocher's tension between precision and intuition. It is a work that breathes, pulses, and listens back. State of Matter marks a turning point in Dobrawa Czocher's creative path-an album that reflects not only where she is, but where she dares to go.

![Zofia Kulisiewicz - Laks, Rozycki, Tansman & Weinberg: Depths - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/0a7d7179-a017-4741-890e-041ff9ea43c8.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
Four composers, four fates. The stories of the four composers and their work are exemplary for the fate of Polish music in the first half of the 20th century, exemplary for a promising new beginning after the First World War following 123 years of political and cultural oppression and foreign domination by the Russian, Prussian and Austrian empires, exemplary for the unimaginable suffering and indescribable destruction that befell Poland with the Nazi terror on 1 September 1939, exemplary, however, also for the tremendous vigor and vitality that is so typical of Polish music as an expression of an indomitable will to live and survive. The biographies of Szymon Laks (1901-1983), Aleksander Tansman (1897-1986) and Mieczyslaw Weinberg (1919-1996) also confront us with questions about the InchidentityInch of music, about the perspectives of cultural historiography, about the mechanisms of repression, forgetting and rediscovery. Even though we are dealing with composers who never questioned their Polish identity, the centrifugal forces that affected their biographies through persecution, expulsion and exile were so strong that their national InchadhesionInch was lost. For decades, they found themselves in a kind of limbo from which only a transnational perspective on cultural history could free them. The fate of Ludomir Rozycki (1883-1953) was just as difficult. In 1904 he left Poland for Berlin to perfect his craft with Engelbert Humperdinck at the Royal Academy. During the 19th century and even at the beginning of the 20th century, Polish music was overshadowed by the Russian and, above all, the German InchschoolsInch. For decades, training at a German academy was a must, with the Berlin institutions being of particular importance. Stanislaw Moniuszko studied at the Berlin Academy of Arts, Mieczyslaw Karlowicz at the New Academy of Music, and Zygmunt Noskowski, Feliks No

2021 . InchThe album's title Adela comes from a song by Rodrigo which constitutes the emotional culmination of our duo's programme. What counts is not the name, but the person we love and long for. Everyone certainly has such a person, and so we hope that each listener will find on our CD something close to his or her heart. The piano and classical guitar virtually never collaborate in music. However, after our first joint performance with Lukasz Kuropaczewski we immediately realised that we could create intriguing music worlds together. We followed the same line of thinking in our choice of programme, which derives from both the piano and guitar repertoires, though the spirit of the South that influences most of that music is more typically associated with the guitar tradition. In my arrangements of classical works, I strove to represent the sonic qualities of both instruments, their unique expression, and cultural associations. I reworked Domenico Scarlatti's famous InchSonata in D Minor (Toccata)Inch K. 141 so as to bring out it's Spanish roots. Titled InchDomingoInch on our album, it features distinctive flamenco qualities and an improvised layer. The InchAranjuez Concerto BWV 1056Inch is, as it's very name suggests, a fusion of the world's most famous piece for guitar and orchestra, Joaquin Rodrigo's InchConcierto de AranjuezInch, with Johann Sebastian Bach's InchKeyboard Concerto in F MinorInch BWV 1056. Themes from the second, slow movements of both concertos interlink here as in the film cross-cutting technique, and we swap roles, Lukasz leading the Bach theme while I take up Rodrigo's.Inch
