Dougie Poole - The Rainbow Wheel Of Death - VINYL LP

Today Dougie Poole announced his upcoming record The Rainbow Wheel of Death. The album, Poole's third, is more realized then any of his other records to date. Recorded straight to tape Dougie approached this record as it came to him, naturally, with his vocals and the lyrics at the forefront. InchThis record came together really quick. I hadn't written much for a couple years - I got a full time job at an underwear website during the pandemic. But then I cranked out a bunch of tunes really quickly in winter 2021 and recorded them shortly after with my neighbors. We went down to Katie (Von Schleicher)'s childhood home in the Baltimore suburbs with a bunch of gear and a crew of players and we tracked the bulk of it in a week. In the past I'd write songs obsessively, stitching songs together part by part at my computer. But I was working so much at my computer that I had to step away to feel like I could write. So I put most of these tunes together with just a guitar. Then, I sort of just showed up in Maryland with the songs and a guitar and the players just did their thing. I think that process is reflected in the sound and the content. A lot of the stories and imagery of the songs live in a computer, cause that's been my world for a bit. But the sound of the songs is more natural. You can hear Katie's bird, and her parent's living room, and our chit chat. It was nice to be with people. I don't think I went on a computer that whole week we were in Pasadena.Inch (quote from the artist)His latest album welcomes long time lovers of Poole as well as opening the door for those who've never heard his music. An album full of instant classics, his songs are more relatable and timeless than ever. Approaching broader themes this time, life, death, the point of it all, with lyrics that are as clever as ever there is something for everyone on this record.

There is a spirit that passes through all the folkloric music of the world. The sounds may differ from region to region and from people to people, but folk music holds deep truths that speak to the connective tissue of humanity. There is something mysteriously universal in the way peasants or, for that matter, jazz musicians approach music. For this double , long time collaborators pianist Lucian Ban and violist Mat Maneri alongside legendary woodwind master John Surman further explore the folk music of Transylvania collected by Béla Bartók more than a hundred years ago. For the past five years the trio has deepened the spirit of their music while touring, as can be heard on their new recordings, Cantica Profana and The Athenaeum Concert (vinyl LP only). From Ban and Maneri's informative liner notes InchOnce we took the music on the road an unfolding of a new musical spirit was happening to us with each concert. Revisiting the dances, carols, dowry songs, doinas and lamentations first recorded in Timisoara in 2018 with each live performance new vistas would open, new forms would spring, themes and instrumental roles would be freely interchanged, a 'pulsing life of peasant-music,' to use Bartok's own words, carrying us forward.Inch Extensive touring allowed the trio to really explore their repertoire. The pieces began to expand and evolve. Surman observed, InchSometimes using small fragments of material and developing those fragments whilst trying to retain the spirit of the original material.Inch Each performance allowed the trio to approach each song in a new and original manner, whether it was dropping the theme entirely or just mixing in subtle hints of the melodies or harmonies to lead the group into new territories. The trio had matured to become a seemingly living musical organism, dancing to their own contemporary folkloric sounds. To find such a dedicated co
