Country music is a lot like life. Fads come and go, and some folks will do anything to get ahead. But for Warner Music Nashville's Drew Parker, there's something to be said for staying put. A modern traditionalist with a country style rooted in the rich textures of the '90s, he doesn't follow trends. His tried-and-true music is a timeless reflection of the steady life he leads - a metaphorical Inchlife at the end of the dirt roadInch - with writing that turns simplicity into serenity. And while that hasn't always been in style, it has always been his style. Even when it seemed like a liability. InchWhen I moved to Nashville eight years ago, it didn't seem like the kind of music I wanted to make was where Nashville was at - it seemed like a bad time to move to town,Inch he says with a laugh. InchBut you know, hindsight is 20/20, and in reality it was the perfect time.... I just had to make sure I didn't chase anything.Inch Today, his dedication has paid off. Staying true to himself (for better or worse), he's risen from his small town Georgia roots to the upper echelons of Music Row, fusing craftsman-style country penmanship with the sonic spirit of icons from Keith Whitley and Merle Haggard to Travis Tritt, Alan Jackson and George Strait. It seems the market has come to him. A two-way singer-songwriter, his co-written hits include Luke Combs' Gold certified InchLonely One,Inch Platinum certified Inch1,2 ManyInch (featuring Brooks & Dunn), BMI Song of the Year winner InchForever After AllInch and Grammy nominated Platinum Number One, InchDoin ThisInch - plus Jake Owen's Gold-certified Number One, InchHomemade.Inch They're all imbued with organic twang and attention to detail, and on the artistic side, he's the same guy. Around the Fur the follow-up to Deftones' passionate, aggressive Adrenaline, sees the California quartet expanding on the sheer rage of their earlier work, adding new, more sinister shades to their already extreme sound. The opening InchMy Own Summer (Shove It),Inch serves as an introduction to the album's sonic theme sinewy guitars and eerie whispers alternate with fast, violent crunch. Sepultura's Max Cavallero contributes guitar and vocals to InchHeadup,Inch while InchMXInch finds singer Chino trading off vocal lines with Annalynn Cunningham, (wife of Deftones' drummer Abe) in an acerbic take on the rock star mentality. Vocal acrobat Moreno attacks a variety of styles his breathy, psychotic recitations sound downright industrial, while the album's calmer, more brooding moments show his gift for haunting melody. Behind him, guitarist Stephen Carpenter's heavy wall of sound is astoundingly muscular, yet inspiringly agile. When Deftones' hellish fury hits full tilt, as it always does on this album, Moreno's voice erupts into screams which are best described as otherworldly, transforming this intense musical firestorm into a hurtling juggernaut of aggression.
