About this product
Johann Sebastian Bach never hesitated to adapt, rework and truly metamorphose his own music with remarkable aplomb. There is no shortage of examples. It is this model of transcription that the D!ssonanti ensemble has sought to follow in the programme on this disc. With the notable exception of the Ciaccona BWV 1004, originally written for solo violin - and already the subject of countless transcriptions throughout the ages - they have for the most part drawn on the keyboard repertoire, and in particular the great organ, an instrument that is both fascinating and sometimes a little intimidating. The Passacaglia and Thema Fugatum BWV 582, almost always written for four voices, is the culmination of this repertoire. Each of the members of the ensemble, in the course of a busy life spent in contact with Bach's music played on period instruments and with a concern for authenticity in the most prestigious ensembles (Les Arts Florissants, Pygmalion, Freiburger Barockorchester, Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Concerto Copenhagen...), have acquired sufficient proximity to his musical language to respect, if not the letter, at least the spirit. InchOur hope is to use these adaptations to show Bach in a light that is both new and familiar. A protean Bach that we've had a lot of fun imagining - and the treasure chest we've opened is not about to close again...Inch.

![Pergolesi / Petersen / Prandi - Messa in Re Maggiore - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/32a559d7-92f9-4070-858b-59b742317c4a.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
New light on Pergolesi! This album sheds light on a lesser-known aspect of the great Italian composer, offering two masterpieces in their first modern edition and first recording the Mass in D major and the mottettone Dignas Laudes. Both editions are the outcome of recent musicological research carried out by the Centro Studi Pergolesi in Milan, and show a facet of Pergolesi - his energetic and solemn character - that complements and amplifies the dramatic and introspective moods of his most renowned sacred works. This Arcana inaugurates a collaboration with the Ghislieri Choir & Consort and celebrates the fifteenth anniversary of the ensemble, which specialises in eighteenth-century sacred repertory and has already recorded works by Galuppi, Jommelli, Perez (Il Mattutino de' Morti) and Handel (Handel in Rome 1707) for Sony-DHM. The soloists on this recording, conducted by Giulio Prandi, are the soprano Marlis Petersen, one of the leading sopranos on the international scene, and a quintet of young Italian singers who already perform in the most important and prestigious European venues. Gidon Kremer and Mario Brunello pay tribute to Beethoven by presenting two of his most famous quartets in a version for string orchestra played by Kremerata Baltica. The ensemble's founder Gidon Kremer directs op.131 from the violin, while Mario Brunello conducts op. 135 and adds two contemporary pieces, one by Leo Ferre, 'the revolutionary, anarchic, inspired singer-songwriter and great lover of Beethoven' Muss es sein? Es muss sein! 'We perform this hymn to 'free music' in a version arranged by Valter Sivilotti for cello, strings and percussion with Ferre's original voice... Note sconte means 'hidden notes' in Venetian dialect. Franco Rossi, the legendary cellist of the Quartetto italiano, always invited his students, including me, to look for and give importance to the note sconte in the scores of string quartets. I asked Giovanni Sollima to write a piece in memory of Franco Rossi, of his great passion for Beethoven and his note sconte,' comments Mario Brunello. 'These two works form a bridge between Beethoven and our times, giving the expression InchSearching for LudwigInch a concrete reality in sound,' concludes Gidon Kremer. Album Tracks 1. Muss Es Sein ? Es Muss Sein ! (Arranged for Cello, Strings and Percussion) 2. String Quartet No.16 in F Major Op.135 (Arranged for String Orchestra) 3. Note Sconte (First Version for String Orchestra) 4. String Quartet No.14 in C Sharp minor Op.131 (Arranged for String Orchestra)
