About this product
Toronto's Ducks Ltd. Will an expanded re-issue of their debut EP, Get Bleak on May 21, 2021 via Carpark Records. Composed of Evan Lewis, on lead guitar, and Tom McGreevy, on vocals and rhythm guitar, the band built a reputation in it's hometown for their bright, sinewy, guitar. The band initially released their debut EP under the name Ducks Unlimited, earning accolades from Pitchfork who praised the band's 'lilting, throwback jangle pop.' Whereas the original tracks on the EP demonstrate the debut stylings of Ducks Ltd., the bonus tracks on the album serve as indications of their music to come. Bringing the band's characteristic restless bounce, thoughtful lyricism and penchant for orchestration, the tracks explore topics like troubled friendships ('It's Easy'), self-destructive desires ('Oblivion'), and living with decline ('As Big As All Outside') while maintaining the balance of earnest self-reflection and humor that endeared audiences to the original .1 Get Bleak2 Gleaming Spires3 Annie Forever4 Anhedonia5 Oblivion6 As Big As All Outside7 It's Easy

Released in 1968, Federal Duck is the self-titled debut album from this obscure soft-psych band. Federal Duck were a group of college buddies from Haverford, Pennsylvania. Founded by banjo exponent George Stavis, this band only released one album before Stavis went on to record solo for the Vanguard tag. The band played together for almost 4 years under aliases including Stomp Jackson Quintet and The Guides. Another underground gem from one of the many obscure college bands to pop up during the late-60s psychedelic era, re-issued here on shiny heavyweight virgin vinyl in Seville Orange colour.

Toronto's Ducks Ltd. (formerly Ducks Unlimited), the bright jangle-pop duo of Tom McGreevy (lead vocal, guitar, bass, keyboards) and Evan Lewis (guitar, bass, drum programming), accomplish the impossible. The pair craft songs that play to very specific inspirations without drowning underneath them-immediately evidenced on their critically acclaimed EP, Get Bleak, and sharpened on Modern Fiction, their debut LP. Echoes of '80s indiepop abound, but they never overwhelm. This is not a nostalgic record, after all, nor is it a derivative one. Instead, across 10 cheery-sounding songs, Ducks Ltd. Explore contemporary society in decline, examining large scale human disaster through personal turmoil. How Lonely Are You?Old Times18 CigarettesUnder the Rolling MoonFit to BurstPatience Wearing ThinAlways ThereSullen Leering HopeTwere Ever ThusGrand Final Day

This is the first official by The Ducks - a short lived group that Neil played with in 1977. The Ducks featured Neil (guitar, harmonica and vocals), Bob Mosely (bass and vocals), Jeff Blackburn (guitar and vocals) and Johnny Craviotto (drums). Mosely was an original member of Bay Area band Moby Grape; Blackburn had previously fronted his own band and co-wrote with Neil the classic track InchMy My Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)Inch. The band played several shows in Santa Cruz, CA and other California venues during two months in 1977, and this 3-LP, 2 CD, 25-track live album features highlights from those shows. The set lists were very democratic, with each member of the band taking the lead in turn. 5 Neil Young songs are showcased, including a rocking version of InchMr. SoulInch, plus beautiful renditions of InchAre You Ready For The CountryInch, InchLittle WingInch, InchSail AwayInch and InchHuman HighwayInch.
