In July of 1960, in protest against what they considered the failings of the jazz scene and the accelerating commercialization of the annual Newport Jazz Festival, Charles Mingus and Max Roach staged their own InchrebelInch festival at nearby Cliff Walk Manner, RI. The rebels set up their own tents for sleeping, built their own stage, handled advertising, promotion, ticket taking and MC duties. By all accounts the concert was wholly inspired and a peaceful affair. Meanwhile, what was supposed to be an alternative festival turned out to be the only one in town. Unable to disperse an intoxicated mob of young people seeking access to the sold-out show at Freebody Park, the actual Newport Jazz Festival ended abruptly in a full scale riot. Despite the fact that these sessions were held in the studio, the music reflects the high-spirited freedom of the best jazz played at the original setting with nearly all of it improvised during the recording. Of particular note is the Booker Little track InchCliff Walk,Inch which features both Max Roach and Jo Jones, two of the greatest jazz drummers ever, trading off. The LP includes extraordinary liner notes written by Hentoff himself, giving a context and insight that adds to the experience of hearing these magnificent performances. This recording is remastered by legendary mastering engineer, Bernie Grundman. A1. Mysterious Blues 8 35 A2. Cliff Walk 9 37 B1. Wrap Your Troubles In Dreams 3 47 B2. Transplanted Kiwi London garage punk miscreants reissue debut LP on 180g blood red vinyl plus two bonus tracks. This first record is a funny, tuneful rampage of hedonistic juvenile delinquency, grave robbing fantasies and substance/self abuse-themed anarchy, from the opening blast of Mentally Ill to the climactic kiss-off Trash Talkin' Paint Huffin' Girl. The stand-out tunes include unconventional my girlfriend dumped for the leader of a Nazi biker gang anthem Rides With The Reich (InchGee I, don't wanna kiss ya, I'm in love with Adolf HitlerInch), the shouty Motorhead-name checking alcoholic celebration of At The Pub (InchI was born (at the pub), went to school (at the pub), fell in love (at the pub), had my kids (at the pub), had a beer (at the pub), had a fight (at the pub)Inch) and manic mid-term meltdown School Sucks (Inchkill the teachers, burn the homework, smash the classroomInch). There's pretty much a racket to suit every form of deviancy. The whole record clocks in at under 30 minutes, making it the perfect rude 'n' crude warm-up music for any imminent crime spree.

Eight years in the making, Santa Cruz, California's reclusive sons of tectonic riffage Mammatus return with Expanding Majesty, a sixty-nine minute magnum opus of kaleidoscopic guitars, soaring analog synths, wall-of-amps fuzz bass and one hundred feet drums. Four side-long pieces unfold across a double album in unstoppable riffs that span the meditative and joyful un-earthed flight of '70s kosmische godfathers like Popol Vuh and Tangerine Dream to the kinds of sub-surface thunder pioneered by Melvins and Sleep.
