About this product
The world premiere recording of Antonín Dvorak's three-act opera Alfred is a monumental event of great scholarly interest for experts and the general public alike. This Wagnerian-style 1870 opera was performed and recorded for the first time as written (i.e. in the German language) in Prague's premiere venue the Dvorak Hall at the Rudolfínum. A team of leading Dvorak scholars prepared the critical edition of the score and materials. The live recording features premiere Wagnerian singers, as well as the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic Choir, and conductor Heiko Mathias Forster. The libretto, set somewhere in England in the year 878, during the war between the English and the Danes, marked the sole occasion upon which Dvorak wrote music to a German libretto (by German poet Karl Theodor Korner (1791-1813).

After more than eighty years, Supraphon has revived it's historical sublabel bearing the name of ARTONA and released it's first title PRAGUE CLASSICS - a musical souvenir from Prague. Originally, ARTONA was a sublabel of the ULTRAPHON gramophone company, predecessor of today's SUPRAPHON publishing house. For the first time this tag appeared in the spring of 1932 bearing the supplementary characteristics of Inchlocal productInch. The main reason for establishing the side tag was Ultraphon's effort to come up with recordings that might appeal to the general public both by their contents and price. Supraphon now re-introduces this sublabel with the aim of publishing compilations that will please the lovers of the most famous and popular melodies offered by classical music. On the present , A Musical Souvenir from Prague, experience the magic atmosphere of Prague through the works of classical music written by composers who were in one way or other connected with Prague. We offer you here a musical walkthrough with Antonín Dvorák, Bedrich Smetana, Leoš Janácek, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Gustav Mahler as well as leading Czech orchestras and ensembles. Quite rightly, Prague is considered to be one of most beautiful European cities. It's monuments including the Prague Castle, the Charles Bridge, the astronomical clock of the Old Town City Hall or the Old Jewish Cemetery make the Inchgolden cityInch one of the most frequently visited tourist destinations in Europe. Prague's unique charm also attracts artists from all over the world and it's Inchgenius lociInch has inspired a number of composers both locally and internationally. Allow the city and it's music to charm you too!

Vinyl LP pressing. Blonde Redhead return with 'Sit Down for Dinner,' their first album in nine years and debut for section 1. It's title a nod to the often-sacred communal ritual of sharing a meal with those you love, this immersive, meticulously crafted album appropriately serves an expression of persistent togetherness, a testament to the unique internal logic Blonde Redhead have refined over their three-decade existence. Understated yet visceral melodies charge each song, creating a foil to lyrics about the inescapable struggles of adulthood communication breakdown in enduring relationships, wondering which way to turn, holding onto your dreams. Ultimately, 'Sit Down for Dinner' lands as perhaps the strongest record in catalog that's already as illustrious as it is varied.
