The vacuum is serviceable and easy to maneuver around tight areas and in small spaces. Pros: Lightweight, visually appealing, strong suction and works on different surfaces. Cons: If you are using attachments and have the tower stationary, it’s possible it tilts over, this happens more often than I would like, some of the attachments and features feel cheaply made, ex: sometimes I feel that a piece is going to snap. Overall: Solid vacuum, does it’s job on carpet and/or smooth surfaces, but for price it seems to be a little high for value.

Precursor: A year ago, my fiancée and I adopted an Australian Shepherd Border Collie mix. He came from an accidental crossover litter at an Amish farm. Lucky us, he got the double coat of an Aussie and the long hair of a border collie. This is his first spring as an adult. The shedding was ungodly. I bought this vacuum. It is a literal lifesaver. Pros: The pet hair tool that spins in two different directions is fantastic. My couch, chair, etc are spotless now. In the past I had to use static spray and my garbage smaller vacuum. The Dyson cut through thick dog fur with ease. I’ve seen reviews where the vacuum has a hard time on carpet. That’s not true. It glides over standard thread carpet and does an impeccable job. I vacuumed a two story apartment in about 40 minutes. I picked up more hair, dust, and dander than I thought possible. Noise is not that bad for how powerful the suction is either. My dog was curious, but he never really went after it. You can see how much junk it pulled up in the first use (I vacuumed two days ago with my old unit). Cons: This thing is not great over area rugs. If the entire rug is clear of furniture, then run it over fast without stopping. Otherwise, it will pull up the rug. You have to turn it off and on again to pull it free. I continue to just use the smaller battery vacuum for my area rugs. Using the wand tool can also be sort of a workout. When you turn it on, the suction will fight back a bit. The exhaust can also get a bit hot if you are close to the vacuum doing couch cushions and such. I’m a pretty fit guy and the exhaust had me in a sweat after a little while. None of these cons are deal breakers. If you have an Aussie, Husky, or really any dog with a double coat, then get this vacuum. You will not regret it. It has dramatically improved the quality of life in my home along with the overall cleanliness.

I already own an expensive Kirby vacuum which I hate. It's heavy, very difficult to use and shreds belts like nobody's business. I decided to purchase this particular Dyson vacuum based on my daughter's satisfaction of her own 8-year-old Dyson Animal vacuum, the compilation of other reviews here and the fact that it does not have a belt. I have 2 cats and several environmental allergies so a good vacuum is very important to me. I used my new Dyson for the first time tonight after I read the directions. The booklet's pictorial directions were not clear about how to disengage the attachment wand, but Dyson's You Tube tutorial easily solved that problem. Oh my goodness, the amount of hair and dirt this new machine picked up - easily - was simply amazing and it was actually fun to use! I'm actually looking forward to challenging it's performance again soon, and for years to come.

Took about 8 mins to piece together. Now runs like a dream. Used it on a rug that I’ve tried to vacuum several times with another hoover, and in one go with the Dyson I could hear dirt and debris that hasn’t been picked up previously rattling up and into the catchment compartment. It’s super easy to use. Rolls well, and transitions from hard surface to rug effortlessly. Turns corners well too with the roller ball. The alternative suction wand thing works really well too, and it’s handy that a couple attachments for it connect directly to the main vacuum, so you don’t have them getting lost somewhere in the house. It is heavier than many vacuums, and you may find it tedious going up and down stairs. The price you pay for having clean floors. Or just buy one for each floor in your house, and problem solved! Recommended.

I thought my old Dyson had suction power, this new vacuum has so much suction power. It literally pulls me forward, you will need a strong grip to keep it in line. My old vacuum broke down and I needed a replacement. Benefits of this vacuum are that the cord is super long, the dust bin is large and the filters keep dust from leaking out.

After doing many reviews on numerous vacuums, nothing compared to the Dyson Ball Animal 2. With have having two long haired dogs with love to shed, the Animal 2 picks up every bit of it. When using the Dyson ball Animal 2 it feels like you got your monies worth, strongly built. We treat the Dyson as it’s part of the family. I highly recommend this investment to anyone who is looking for a well designed machine!

We recently adopted a pit lab mix who sheds A LOT. This vacuum has been a life saver. If you look at the photos, the hair in the vacuum is from one day and just from the small brown carpet area in the photo. This vacuum actually picks up everything and it even works on our shag rug! A great buy and very easy to use and to empty.

After our 3rd vacuum in 5 years broke, I went to Best Buy for a Hoover they had on sale for $139. The salesman happily got the model for me, but casually mentioned the Dyson was on sale. I told him it was still too expensive, but I'd happily take a look. After learning about Dyson's 5 year warranty and Best Buy's 4 year warranty stacked on that, I decided to try the Dyson. My friends who have them have had them for close to a decade with no issue. THe first room I vacuumed at home had the canister filled with dust and dog hair (our dog is even a breed that doesn't shed much). And we had JUST vacuumed this room before our vacuum broke. It was amazing and disgusting all at them same time...see the I'm excited to see if our allergies lessen at home now that we are actually getting most out of our carpets!

I purchased my first Dyson in 2007. Last month it stopped working properly. I bought the newer version and love it. Here's a picture of my 2007 and 2017 Dyson.

So our old Panasonic vacuum was 15 years old. It worked but not that great anymore. I have a shaggy dog so we vacuum daily. I wanted a “pet” vacuum and wasn’t considering bissel and shark. Both claim to be just like the dyson for way less money. No way. Those things were so cheap on inspection. This item went on sale and I took the plunge. I am super impressed with the suction. I was sort of shocked how much it picked up over the old vacuum. So much more dust. My only complaints would be the hose extension. It can be a pain to move around. Also the ball unit takes a little getting used to with the articulation.

There's no match for this one. I can't believe what an amazing job it does and I'm talking four Huge German Shepherds and a couple of cats and it makes lightning quick work of the aftermath. Just love the pet brushing attachment that Dyson makes for this too... Never will I buy a different brand of vacuum after owning this one, and BestBuy couldn't be outdone for price and availability as usual...

The suction is very powerful. The price point is little on the higher side compared to other brands.

The dyson brand has always been good. After trying out the unit for the first time, unbelievable what older vac left behind.. Great machine

The Dyson - Animal 2 Bagless motivates Saturday morning cleaning. This vacuum cleaner goes everywhere and cleans very thoroughly. Excellent investment at BestBuy. Thanks you guys. BTW the product, the price and stellar customer service made the whole experience unanimous. Excellent.

I had the earlier Dyson Animal 28 and this is sooo much better! I have mostly hardwood floors and it easily transitions to carpet - this vacuum is awesome. The suction is so strong for smaller area rugs so I had to use an attachment.

This vacuum cleaner is one of the best investments we have made. We have a great pyrenees dog and he sheds quite a bit but this vacuum cleaner pics all of it up. So happy with it

This vacuum sucks. It sucks TOO hard to not have a manual height adjustment. I purchased this Ball Animal 2 to replace my Dyson DC28. The latter had a manual height adjustment. I thought the Animal 2 would be an upgrade, but it cannot be used on good carpet / padding. I tried it on multiple surfaces in my house: hardwood, low pile area rugs, high pile area rugs, and carpeted floors. The results on bare floors and low pile area rugs was good with lots of lint and hair being picked up. I was able to vacuum my shag area rug, but it wasn't easy -- I could feel resistance from the vacuum. Finally, the vacuum could not be pushed on my carpeted floors at all, which have a nice quality carpet and comfortable padding. Since I can't use this vacuum to vacuum the most vacuum-required areas of my house... it looks like I have to do the walk of shame to my local Best Buy store and return this expensive, unusable product. :( I'll be looking for an alternative that has manual height adjustment, or at least doesn't have consistent complaints from people with carpeted floors. (Read the reviews. I didn't trust the negative ones, and I am a darn fool.) Also, this vacuum is heavy, so regardless of if you live in a home with all bare floors or thin carpet, I don't recommend it for anyone with a physical condition that may make it difficult for them to lug it around, especially up/down the stairs.

Hello Jenn, this is Kelly with Dyson. I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your Dyson Ball Animal 2 on the flooring in your home. I can confirm, Dyson ball upright vacuums - including Dyson Ball Animal 2, have an active base plate which self-adjusts to create optimal contact with every floor type. This reduces air leaks and retains more suction power at the cleaner head. Dyson cleaner heads have been designed to maintain optimal contact with flooring to help ensure the best performance across both hard floors and carpet. As a result, while we don't expect problems to occur and experiences can vary from home to home, some high pile carpets may fill in the cleaner head resulting in an airtight seal.
While we don't expect issues to occur, Dyson does back your new machine from an authorized retailer with a free 5-year guarantee. We would value the opportunity to assist you, to help ensure your Dyson is working properly. Please feel free to contact us directly at [email protected]. We are keen on providing you with support and learning more about your experience.
Best wishes,
Kelly
