Dyson - Hot+Cool AM09 Tower, Heater and Fan - Iron/blue

I picked up the Dyson Hot+Cool AM09 Tower Heater and Fan in Iron/Blue from Best Buy a couple of months ago, right as the Chicago winters started biting, and it’s been a reliable addition to my living room setup. I mainly use it as a heater to warm up the space without cranking up the central heating, which has helped cut down on my gas bills noticeably—I’ve seen about a 20% drop in usage since relying on this for spot heating during evenings. What I really like is how quickly and evenly it distributes warm air; the oscillation feature covers the whole room without hot or cold spots, and it’s surprisingly quiet, even on higher settings, so it doesn’t disrupt movie nights or conversations. The fan mode is a bonus for warmer days, and the sleek design fits right in with my modern decor without looking bulky. Plus, the remote control makes adjustments easy from the couch. On the downside, it’s a bit pricey upfront compared to basic heaters, and the air flow can feel a tad forceful if you’re sitting too close on the highest fan speed. But overall, for efficient, targeted heating that saves on energy costs, this has been a smart choice—I’d recommend it to anyone looking to supplement their home heating system.

I had a large tower fan that was obtrusive that I wanted to replace with a 3 season model. This Dyson fit that need. I liked the build quality and sleek look. The colors go well with my decor. At just under 24 inches, it is compact. So compact that I decided to put the Dyson on a small table I have - see the photo. The heat output is OK as long as you are fairly close to the Dyson. The fan only has more range and the fan pattern can be adjust from focused to diffuse. I’m about 7 feet away and the fan and heat are adequate. The Dyson has a small footprint compared to my former tower fan. The remote is very small and easy to handle. See the photo of the remote in my hand for sense of size and scale. Two issues cause me to rate this 4 stars rather than 5 stars. Issue 1 was the fact that the remote is required to operate this device. If you break or lose the remote, the only function you can control is on/off. I located a second Dyson branded remote for about $25 for the two seating locations in my living room. Reason 2 is that if I press the fan speed button upward or downward quickly, it activates my McIntosh MX-122 home theater preamp controlled audio system. That’s a really quirky adverse event that won’t affect many users but it got my attention. If I press the fan speed buttons slowly, it does not activate the McIntosh. Hence my 4-star rating. Overall, this Dyson unit is a better but pricier option than my tower fan. It looks good, works well enough from me and I can work around the shortcomings I described above. Hope this data helps!

I live in a 500 square foot house, maybe even a little smaller. Moved in about a week before I purchased this unit, house came with a cheap wall heater that didn't heat more than a few feet in front of it, and baseboard heaters in the bathroom and bedroom, very energy inefficient and they got too hot for comfort. In comes the Dyson AM09, this thing is a beast! I leave it plugged in and on all day, set at 65 degrees, it only kicks on when it needs to and it heats my entire house up. I leave it right next to the front door, and by leaving the bedroom and bathroom doors open, the whole house stays warm. It's dead quiet in the sense that when I'm gaming, I can't hear it at all. The small white noise it does make is kind of relaxing when reading or sleeping and it boots up.

I got this as a replacement for the same unit I purchased five years ago. I didn’t feel it was producing the same results as when I bought it so I figured it was time for a new one. I use this little unit to heat a 10’ x 22‘ Second story bedroom. I set it on 72° and that is what it maintains. The temperature for the last two weeks has not been above freezing with Lows around zero. I put it in the center of the room and let it osculate and it cycles on and off. Have not seen a big difference to my electric bill. I feel this little giant is well worth the money. I can’t imagine winter without one.

This small heater puts out a lot of heat & yakes ip bety little space. Cool to touch ssfe atkund small kids.
