Dyson - Hot+Cool HF1 Rapid React All Season Heater Fan - White/Silver

This is my second "hot + cool" fan from Dyson, and this new HF1 model is even better than the original. I've always been a fan of Dyson's bladeless fans due to their minimalist designs and powerful performance, and the HF1 improves on this by adding in smart home integration and a vivid screen at the bottom of the unit. Best of all, it is much more stylish than almost any space heater or compact fan on the market -- and you get both of these things in one, sleek device. === PROS === - Setup is incredibly simple since all you have to do is twist on the round base to the bottom of the fan. To add the fan to the Dyson app, just scan the serial number on the bottom. - The magnetic remote control snaps neatly to the top of the fan, so you don't have to worry about losing it. - It seems that the fan defaults to heat mode when you turn it on for the first time - so get ready to feel blast of warm air! I was surprised at just how quickly it heats up -- I felt hot air withing just a few seconds of powering it on. - You can oscillate the fan (left and right) with options of 15, 40, or 70 degrees. You can also manually tilt the fan at the base to point slightly upwards or downwards. - There are 10 fan speeds, and the fan surprisingly does not get very loud at the highest speeds. Dyson claims that this model is 25% quieter than the previous hot + cool model, and I believe it. If you don't want to use the remote, you can easily adjust the fan speed using the new dial at the base of the fan. - For light sleepers, there's a "sleep mode" that can be activated on the remote or in the app. This mode reduces the air speed and dims the screen. - For both heating and cooling, this is a very powerful fan. The heat setting reaches as high as 90 degrees, and it blows a consistent stream of hot air. The fan increased the temperature in my bedroom from 66 degrees to 71 degrees in just a few minutes. In regular fan/cool mode, the fan does an excellent job circulating air at speeds of 7 or higher. === CONS === - In heating mode, the HF1 seems to get very hot after running for more than a few minutes. Even the power cord gets warm. There are no exposed heating elements, but the plastic around the "loop" of the fan can be very hot to the touch at higher temperatures. If you have kids, be sure to use the child lock feature so they don't dial up the heat too high. - Speaking of the power cord, it is very thick and stiff, making it difficult to conceal. I suppose this kind of cord is necessary for a space-heating device like this that consumes a lot of power, but it's something to be aware of. - Don't expect this to heat or cool a large area -- its small size is best suited for smaller spaces like bedrooms or offices. If you run it in heat mode in a large room, it will run almost non-stop and will likely result in a very high energy bill. - At fan speeds below 6 or 7, I sometimes struggle to feel the fan moving much air. I usually have to keep the fan set to at least 8 or higher to really feel air movement. === OVERALL === As with most things Dyson, the HF1 is priced as a premium product. The biggest selling point is that it doubles as a fan and a space heater in such a small package. If you're like me and just want one device that to keep in a bedroom year round, then the Dyson HF1 is likely worth the asking price. But if you live in a warmer climate or already have a standalone space heater, then maybe the value proposition is different. Regardless, the HF1 is a powerful little fan that is stylish, efficient, and quiet. You won't be disappointed.

The Dyson HF1 Heater Fan is a small and easy to use heating and cooling fan. Setup is simple and straightforward and consists of the following quick steps: - Screw base onto the fan bottom by until it clicks. - Pull remote battery contact strip to activate - Download and install the MyDyson app using QR code provided on the box flap. I already had an existing Dyson account, so I was able to log into the app and get started immediately. The terms of use must be agreed to before the app can be used. The terms include the Dyson privacy notice, which is not included in the app, but a URL to the notice is provided. After the app becomes accessible, the fan then needs to be paired with the app via Bluetooth and connected to Wi-Fi. Once that is done, initial setup is completed. After I completed the setup, the fan began running and the app applied a firmware update. Updates are applied automatically unless the option to do so is disabled. The fan can be operated via the app, the included remote, or the controls directly on the device. All of the options allow me to power the fan on and off, activate and adjust heating or cooling, adjust fan speed, adjust oscillation, toggle sleep mode, and set the timer. Controls are easy and intuitive to use regardless of which option I select. Noise levels during use were measured at 60dB for max fan speed of 10, 50dB at mid fan speed of 5, and 40dB on sleep mode. The fan can provide heating or cooling. The heat function is great for quickly heating smaller rooms, and does a decent job on moderate sized rooms as well. It struggles a bit more with larger areas, but it can effectively heat a large space if sufficient time is allowed. Even if it doesn’t heat the entire room immediately, it is useful as a personal heater and heats my immediate area comfortably until the rest of the room catches up. The fan doesn’t have any internal cooling or refrigerant, so it relies on circulating room air. The concentrated breeze it blows feels surprisingly cool, even in warmer rooms. The fan can also oscillate in adjustable angles of 15, 40, or 70 degrees and can tilt forward or back to adjust the vertical direction of airflow. Oscillation can be controlled remotely, but tilt is only adjustable manually. Additional features include an adjustable timer, sleep mode for quieter operation, child lock, voice control (utilizing Siri, Alexa or Google Home), tip-over emergency shut off, and environmental air quality monitoring. The fan has no exposed blades or heating elements and the chassis remains cool even when heating. This allows me to use the fan worry-free around small children and pets. The fan is lightweight and easy to move to wherever it is needed. Overall, the HF1 fan is a handy and efficient space heater and cooling fan that not only provides heat or cooling as needed, but is stylishly designed and effortlessly fits into any décor. It replaced two stand-alone devices in my bedroom: a tower fan and portable heater. It’s mostly quiet during operation, and even at full blast never sounds disruptively loud.

It's a fan and it does what a fan does, moves air around the room. What makes this more unique is the built-in heater to help warm the air. You can easily adjust the temperature with the included remote. You cannot however turn on the heater from the app, but you can turn on the fan. This is a security setting so it's untestable that you cannot activate the heater element from the app. I already have the Dyson app on my phone, so setup was a complete breeze. I opened the app, turned on the fan, and the app found the fan within seconds and added it to my app. From the app you can control fan speed, osculation, power, timer, etc. The app is also nice as it will tell you indoor air temp and outside air quality. I initially setup the fan in my larger living room to test it out. While the fan part itself was powerful enough to move air around, the heat was not strong enough. I then moved fan closer to where I was sitting, and I could feel the warm air. This fan is not powerful enough to warm a large room but did warm my bedroom room up since it is a smaller space. This fan would be perfect for an office, bedroom, or smaller space. The fan itself is pretty quiet on lower speeds, but on the highest settings I did notice some wind noise. I liked the fact you can angle the fan to push air upwards or downwards, but it has to be done manually. the osculation part has a few adjustments on far it osculates; I just left it on the highest setting. I like the included remote as it allows you to adjust pretty much all the functions of the fan. What I didn't like is that the remote has no way of sticking to the device. My Dyson air purifier has a similar remote, but I can stick it to the air purifier to make sure it doesn't get lost. The display on the front is very easy to read from across the room. When the heater is activated, the display will illuminate the temp setting in red. If the display is not showing a red number, it means it's just operating in fan mode. Super easy to just glance at to make sure heat is on or off, without having to use the app or pick up the remote. Overall, I do like the fan and that is a pretty compact size. I like that it has built in heat but wish it was a little stronger to actually heat a room instead of just warm up the room. If I worked from home, I would keep this in my office to help keep me warm on those cold winter days. Since I work in an office building, they do not allow us to have space heaters, so I cannot take this one to work.

I just set up the Dyson Hot+Cool HF1 Rapid React Heater Fan. This thing is pretty cool - literally! Once I plugged it in and connected it to wifi with the MyDyson app it immediately needed to update. The update was pretty quick, just a couple of minutes and it was ready to go. I adjusted the heat settings through the remote and could feel the warmth instantly. Then I adjusted it down to 60 degrees and had just the fan going. It is so quiet, and the breeze coming out of it is refreshingly cool. It has oscillation, which doesn't feel as smooth as the air coming out of it but it works and is a nice feature. I really like that it connects to the MyDyson app for easy controls plus you get the small white remote that can also operate it. The cord that comes with it is really stiff and bulky, I'm guessing that has to do with grounding and it being a heater. There's a bottom plate that easily attaches, and clicks into place to sturdy the unit so it won't fall over. It has a timer that you can set to auto shut off and you can adjust the breeze output from 1 through 10. Even at the max speed of 10 it is quiet. This is a great heater/fan combo that is incredibly quiet and I know I will get good use out of it. While the price point is high in my opinion you are paying for the quality that Dyson is known for and it shows.

I have several Dyson vacuums and am impressed with their technology and design. The Hot+Cool HF1 is equally impressive with its bladeless design and air multiplier. At just under three feet tall, the HF1’s design is definitely a head turner. Operationally, you can control the HF1 from the three buttons and LCD display on the front of the device, the 10-button remote control which attaches to the top of the device magnetically, the MyDyson app for your phone and finally, through your smart home systems, either Siri, Alexa or Google Home. Whether you look at this as a heater with a fan or a fan that heats, the HF1 excels at both. Unlike most of the inexpensive milk house heaters and even with more expensive Vornado heaters, these only have a single speed “fan” function that just blows at the same slow speed regardless if you're heating or cooling. The HF1 actually circulates air you can feel - both hot and cool. You get 10 fan speeds for cooling and for heat you simply choose your temperature between 54 and 87 degrees along with your fan speed and the HF1 does the rest. The HF1 oscillates at the press of a button. You have three oscillation choices, 15, 40 and 70 degrees of motion. I like that when you power it down it moves to its home (center most) position - so it even looks proper when it's turned off. You also can tilt the head forward or back to direct the air flow more up or down. Speaking of air flow, while I wouldn't consider the output aggressive, you can feel the breeze from across the room. It is this circulation that allows the HF1 to heat up your spaces faster and more efficiently than other heaters. While you can control the HF1 from the buttons and knob on the front of the unit, the remote control makes life much easier with separate buttons for each function. The MyDyson app adds additional functions like setting a schedule to automatically turn the unit on, continually monitoring the room temperature and outside air quality, and connectivity to smart home services. Unfortunately, due to UL listing, the app doesn't allow any heat settings or scheduling here in the USA which really limits the functionality of the app and more so scheduling if you wanted it to warm up a room before you wake up. I thought connecting it to Alexa would bypass this as the temp selection isn't grayed out. While Alexa was able to turn the HF1 on and set it to heat, so far I have been unable to get Alexa to change the temperature. She will turn on the heat but it consistently goes back to the last temperature you had set, not the desired temperature you selected in the app. The HF1 is very quiet in its lower speeds but as you get above 5 it starts to sound more like a blower due to the fanless design and air multiplier. There is a sleep mode that sets the speed to 4 and turns off the display. If your room is very quiet, you can hear the oscillation motor humming as the device spins. Not annoying but it is audible. It is said imitation is the best form of flattery - that being the case, Dyson should be extremely flattered as most if not all of their products are often imitated but never duplicated. The HF1 is well built and I would expect it to last for many years to come. Four stars.
