Excellent Upgrade with a Few Product Launch Bumps

I would consider myself a tech lover who is definitely an early adopter of new technology and innovation. Dyson is one brand Ive been following and using since the launch of their cord-free vacuum (DC16) around 2006. I love their innovation and industrial design and I am always eager to see what new in their lineup. Currently, I am using their V11 Torque Drive cordless vac and have been quite happy with it over the last few years. When the V16 Piston was announced in late 2025, I was ready to make the upgrade because of quite a few factors, which includes the increased suction, better battery run time, trigger-less operation, and the updated compressable dustbin. I chose the V16 Piston Animal over the V16 Piston Animal Submarine which offers an additional floor attachment for wet cleaning. My place consists mostly of carpet and if I need to do more hard floor cleaning, I can purchase the Submarine attachment at a later time. One important thing to start with is that the V16 Piston vacuum now requires new attachments. They are now considered "smart" and have metals pins built in that relay info to the main unit to allow it to know what attachment is connected. All of the tools that you have from any previous Dyson cordless vacuum will not fit. One other reason is that the main unit as well as the extension wand have a creative nozzle built into the end. That way, you can use the vacuum for simple dirt pickup without any attachment connected. It's a nice feature but clearly comes at a cost. The main problem Ive run into at the time of this review is that the attachment tools and filters are very hard to find, if at all. Dyson hasn't even listed the V16 as an option to find accessories for yet and only show a couple on their V16 product shopping page. I had to dig through the app/website to find them. They clearly aren't ready for a full consumer launch at this point. I also couldn't find any 3rd party attachment tools online but I'm hoping that changes in the near future. Unboxing was simple and straightforward. The box contains the main hand unit which is now a wonderful matte black finish with copper accents and a teal filter assembly. It's much more solid and has some heft to it. I love the attention to detail and design. It's feels far less "plasticy" than my V11 did. The built in LCD screen provides the user with important info such selectable power levels ( Eco, Auto and Burst), real-time information on particulates it's vacuuming up, remaining battery runtime and other system information. One small but important new feature for me at least, is that it no longer has a trigger. All of my previous Dyson cordless vacuums have had one and holding down the trigger became a nuisance over extended usage. This particular Animal model comes with the Fluffy Optic cleaner head, the new Hair Screw 2.0 hand tool, the crevice tool, the new All Floor Cones Sense cleaner head, the extension wand, charging cable and wall dock. Strangely, it didn't offer the 2-in-1 Combi Tool that I have received with all of my other Dyson cordless vacuums in the past. After removing the large amount of informational stickers, I plugged the unit in. The battery is replaceable which is also a new feature for me, and it is listed to provide up to 70 minutes of runtime, which is probably in Eco mode. After charging was complete I was ready to connect the vacuum to the MyDyson add which I already use for many of my air cleaners throughout my place. Adding the vacuum was relatively simple via Bluetooth. The built in screen on the main unit walks you through the process, as well as myDyson app. After connecting, the myDyson app is supposed to provide a plethora of info with how-to videos and product features. Again, at the time of this review, the app did not show all of those things and I had to contact Dyson. After providing my V16 serial number, their app developers worked behind the scenes and the app now shows the full set of helpful features. Not sure why this wasn't ready to go when the product hit the shelves but I imagine it will be sorted out in time. The app has contextual boxes that display important info pertaining to the tool attached. That's part of the new "smart" tools aspect. Example; when the All Floors Cone Sense cleaner is attached, the app allows you to adjust the brush speed as well as if you want the Optic illumination feature active or not. As I mentioned, these dynamic boxes change depending on the specific tool which could be helpful. You can also access the illumination on or off option via the main unit's display screen, It's your choice. The MyDyson app also offers a new "beta" Task Detect function that can adjust the Optic lighting and suction power based on the floor/surface type and the specific "smart" tool attached. I tested the V16 and its assortment of tools all around my place. All the tools easily attach to the main unit directly or to the extension tube, which now offers a quick-release feature to quickly release the tool without having to bend down and manually do it. That may be helpful for a some. The Fluffy Optic cleaner head worked very well on my hard floors and the optic light was very effective at showing dust on the floor. The All Floor Cones Sense cleaning head worked well on my carpets but I could also use it on hard floors too. It also offers the Optic lighting feature found on the Fluffy head which you can choose to have on or not. It kind of hurt my eyes/head when it was on while vacuuming my carpets so I turned it off. I'm not sure if it cleaned my hard floors any better or worse than the Fluffy Optic head but It's nice to know I can just used one cleaning head for all floor surfaces if I want. Both the All Floors Cones Sense and Hair Screw 2.0 cleaning tools use a spiraling cone brush unit that will pick up long hair or pet hair and spin it to the end of the brush unit and then off into the air tube. It's supposed to be very effective and great for pet owners. The Hair Screw 2.0 tool was fantastic on my upholstered furniture, mattresses and stairs. I used the crevice tool for my car interior and ultimately, all the tools provided were very effective. One thing that made them so effective is that the V16 Piston Animal has a redesigned Hyperdymium motor that now generates 315 air watts of suction. That is a HUGE improvement over my previous V11 unit. It was a very noticeable especially on my carpets and I'm quite impressed. I wouldn't say it's as powerful as my corded upright vacuum quite yet but it's getting close. Emptying the V16 Piston is even easier now. The dust bin now has a compression slider that can compact the dirt inside the bin. You can keep compacting it until it's full if you want. It's such a simple yet impactful design change and I'm super impressed. It works quite well but I do notice some dust is left in the bin unit. Luckily, it's easy to remove the bin for a more thorough cleansing when needed. There is a washable HEPA filter system and the filter is easy to remove and reattach to the main unit. I bought another filter online so that I could always have the unit operable while the previous filter dries after washing. They are not that expensive which is a plus. So far, my experience with this new Dyson V16 Piston Animal has been very positive even with the product launch issues such as the lack of tools/filter availability as well as MyDsyon app glitches. I'm super happy with the much-improved cleaning power and ease of use this new unit provides. As always, Dyson has created another stylish, sleek new addition to their vacuum lineup and I highly recommend it. The V16 Piston Animal may be pricey, but I believe you absolutely get what you pay for. Well done, Dyson!

    Absolutely Love iT🧹

This Dyson V16 Animal is one of those rare products that instantly made me fell like i upgraded my entire cleaning routine, not just the vacuum. After using it, I can confidently say it blows out of the water every other cordless vacuum I’ve owned — not just from Dyson’s competitors, but even some of Dyson’s older models. This thing it's in a League of it's own . It’s the kind of innovation that doesn’t feel like marketing fluff. The first thing that hit me, was the suction power. The V16 Animal pushes an impressive 315 air watts, which is insane for a cordless vacuum. You feel it the moment you pull the trigger — it grabs dirt, pet hair, dust, and debris with zero hesitation. Even deep‑embedded stuff in carpets doesn’t stand a chance. I’ve owned plenty of vacuums from Dyson’s competition, and none of them came close to this level of raw, consistent power.⚡️What makes it even better is how controlled the suction feels. It’s powerful, but not chaotic. It doesn’t fling debris around or choke on larger particles. It’s like the vacuum knows exactly what it’s doing. Dyson claims up to 70 minutes of runtime, and for once, a vacuum actually lives up to the promise. I can clean my entire place without worrying about the battery dying halfway through. The power doesn’t fade either, it stays strong from start to finish, allowing me to deep clean my 2000 sqft of living at once😁. The V16 is not just the more powerful version on the v15 it's a smarter and more refined machine. Here are the standout features that genuinely impressed me: -Micro Filtration System- The filtration is noticeably better. The air coming out feels cleaner, fresher, and there’s zero dust smell. If you have allergies or pets, this is a game‑changer. -Improved Dust Capacity (1.43 qt) You can clean longer without stopping to empty the bin. It’s a small detail, but it makes the whole experience smoother. -Refined Weight & Balance (7.5 lbs) It feels lighter than it looks. The balance is perfect — no wrist strain, no awkward angles, no fighting the vacuum. Dyson clearly spent time on ergonomics. -Optional Submarine Wet & Dry System- If you get the Submarine version, you can mop and vacuum with the same machine. It’s wild. Dyson basically turned a cordless vacuum into a full cleaning system. Dyson always nails the design, but the V16 Animal feels like a luxury device. The copper and black finish looks modern and sharp. The materials feel solid, durable, and high‑end. Even the click‑in attachments feel more refined than previous generations. This is one of those products where you can tell the engineers cared about the details. As a summary i'll line up few things that i notice in my everyday use: -Pet hair disappears instantly — no multiple passes. -Carpets look refreshed, not just cleaned. -Hard floors get a perfect finish without scattering debris. -The vacuum transitions between surfaces effortlessly. -The bin empties cleanly without dust clouds. -The motor never overheats or loses power. -The attachments feel genuinely useful, not gimmicky. It’s the kind of vacuum that makes you wonder why would you ever settle for anything less. It's a Vacuum that is hard to surpass and if you are on the market for an UpGrade i'll say go ahead, i love mine! 😁

    Powerful, Convenient, and Slightly Stubborn

The Dyson V16 Piston Animal has officially become my default cordless vacuum. I still keep a corded vacuum around for larger cleaning jobs, but when I see pet hair, crumbs, dust, or some mystery debris on the floor, this is the vacuum I grab first. The biggest reason is simple: it makes dirt easy to find and satisfying to remove. The illuminated cleaner head shines a bright green light across hard floors. This is not just a fancy decoration. The light makes tiny pieces of dust and pet hair stand out like they are glowing. In my photo, you can clearly see hair and debris that would normally blend into the wood floor. Once the vacuum passes over the area, it is easy to see exactly what has been cleaned and what still needs another pass. This feature may also reveal that your floor was much dirtier than you thought. Consider yourself warned. The V16 has plenty of suction for a cordless vacuum. Dyson rates it for up to 315 Air Watts of suction and as much as 70 minutes of runtime, depending on the cleaning mode and attachment being used. It can also adjust its cleaning performance based on the floor and the amount of dirt it detects. In normal use, it handles pet hair, crumbs, tracked-in dirt, and everyday household dust without much trouble. The cleaner head moves well across my hard flooring, and the cordless design makes it much easier to move between rooms than dragging out a full-size vacuum and searching for an outlet. One of my favorite features is the compressing dust bin. After dirt and hair enter the bin, you can use the red lever to push everything downward. This packs the debris together and creates more room inside the container. Dyson says the compression system can hold significantly more dust than a normal bin while also helping wipe the inside clean during emptying. In real-world use, the feature works surprisingly well. Pet hair normally forms a fluffy ball that fills a vacuum bin before the bin is truly full. The V16 squishes that hair into a tighter bundle. This means fewer trips to the garbage can and less digging around inside the bin when it is time to empty it. Emptying the vacuum is also cleaner than on many cordless models. The compressed debris is pushed toward the bottom instead of forcing you to reach into the container and pull out a dusty hair monster with your fingers. The wall-mounted charging dock is another feature I really appreciate. My vacuum hangs neatly inside a closet, charges while it is stored, and is ready whenever I need it. The dock keeps the vacuum off the floor and prevents it from leaning against a wall, sliding over, and knocking down everything stored beside it. As shown in my photo, the vacuum fits nicely in a fairly narrow storage area. The charging cord stays in place, so I do not have to plug and unplug the vacuum after every use. I simply place it in the dock and walk away. The V16 is not perfect, however. My biggest complaint involves the small red release buttons used to remove the cleaner head and other attachments. The buttons can be stiff and a little awkward to operate. Sometimes the attachment disconnects immediately. Other times I have to press the button, pull on the attachment, adjust my grip, and try again. It is not a major problem, but it does interrupt an otherwise smooth cleaning experience. On a premium vacuum, the attachments should click on and release easily every time. Larger buttons or a smoother release system would make the V16 much easier to use, especially for someone with limited hand strength. The vacuum can also feel a little top-heavy because the motor, battery, and dust bin are located near your hand. That is common with powerful cordless vacuums, but it is worth knowing if you plan to use it for long cleaning sessions. For quick room cleanups, stairs, and daily pet-hair patrol, I find it very manageable. Overall, the Dyson V16 Piston Animal is an impressive cordless vacuum. The strong suction, bright floor illumination, compressing dust bin, and convenient wall charger make it easy to use on a regular basis. The light helps me find dirt that I would otherwise miss, and the bin compression system is especially useful in a home with pet hair. The stubborn attachment-release buttons keep it from earning a perfect score. Even so, the V16 has become the cordless vacuum I reach for first, and that may be the best compliment I can give it.

Dyson with yet Another Fabulous Product

This thing is an absolute beast and I really look forward to vacuuming now. First off, it’s packaged beautifully…there’s just something elegant about a well designed and packed item. Assembly was straight forward and I liked that it came with two different roller heads, one for carpet and one for hardwood floors and rugs. Wall mount was easy to get up but separating the wall and vacuum mount is trickery the first time. Just don’t force it and it’ll be fine. Using the Dyson app was a breeze and syncing the vacuum to it was super easy. You will need to download a software update before starting but that doesn’t take long. The app gives you all kind of information I didn’t know that I needed. Last session, battery charge, How To’s and simple step by step instructions for use. I love that this has three modes (Eco, Standard, Boost) so choosing how you want to clean is a nice touch. On Eco mode I can get about 40 mins of use, 30 mins on Standard and 20 mins with Boost. The carbon fiber head allows for floor rugs and hardwoods/LVP to be cleaned easily and the MVP is the green light…holy smokes does that thing make a huge difference, you see everything!! Oh and the push down feature to get more debris into the canister is genius, I love that it not only pushes the debris down but it make emptying the canister the absolute easiest!! I just love this and cannot recommend it enough, even the color scheme is great!!

I really, really want to like this vacuum.

This vacuum has so many cool features: The floor brush with the green light is just so fun to use. The hands free latch opening mechanism is great, and the bin compactor is genius. Coming from a 5+ year old cordless that use to shoot out plumes of dust every time I emptied the bin it's been a breath of clean air. My partner and I both have longer hair, but between us and our cats I have yet to see a single tangle of hair on the brush. Plus the battery lasts long enough to clean the entire house. So why the bad rating? Because this stupid thing will just not vacumm up tufts of hair off our carpet. I will see a tuft of cat hair and try to suck it up, only for the vacuum to pass it over. Rinse and repeat this 6 times or so until I get tired of it and pick the tuft of hair up. Maybe our carpet is too plush for this dyson, but it's hard to recommend a vacuum when it readily fails at its primary function. I really want to like this thing, but it's just too expensive to justify keeping it as a hard floor sweeper and I very well may return it within the return window.
