Calling all EDF troups!
You don't need to have played any of the previous Earth Defense Force games to understand what is going on, as this is another parallel universe where Earth is under the very first attack from a mysterious foe. (spoilers: It's Aliens) You have 4 classes of heroes to choose from all very different from each other, each with their own set of equipment and items to collect AND new to EDF5 upgrade over time. Another new feature is that in single player mode, you can collect and increase the armor (HP) of all 4 classes at once. So once you play through the game once, you can more easily play though the other classes with far less grind then in previous games. Most of the enemies have upgraded in this release, as the prior EDF4.1 was a remaster of the previous EDF game from the PS3 and X360 generations. But there are still two or three mostly the same enemies that look the same, but have other tweeks to them. Head shots, splatter, armor and limb dismemberment for the insects and aliens all greatly improve possible number of the previous games more limited strategies. Help make this game the best in the franchise to date. (unlike EDF: Iron Rain) This is a quite interesting improvement on the Earth Defense Force formula, even if a few of the missions are very similar to previous games (not that this is bad, but there is a limit to the types of encounters you can have before the new evolved enemies show up.) A single first time play trough will take about 40 hours, give or take some grinding Offline Solo. Online there is a great community of high ranking players willing to tag along on your journey to finish the game, and given the Co-op nature of the game, all unlock-able pickups are shared between all players, so there is no reason to fight each other for them. And with the additional help you could potentially never play a level more then once and finish the game in roughly 25-30 hours. For those who want to play together locally a split screen option is available. Making this game worth the asking price, even if you only play through it once.

Attention Collectors...
If you have played an EDF game before then you know what to expect. Fast, frenetic fun. It's Starship Troopers meets Godzilla-type B movies. Cheezy goodness with online 4 player and local, split-screen 2 player coop. Now from a collectors stand point, this game has no patches and plays immediately upon insertion. ZERO PATCHES; ALL DATA ON DISC. The 18gb install occurs entirely in the background. Plus the digital version is $60. Physical is $40. You're welcome.

EDF! EDF! We need a captain!
Some more classic EDF action. If you’ve played 4.1 this game is on the same engine and feels nearly identical in the moment to moment gameplay but there are lots of QOL improvements and the new enemy types are less frustrating to take care of then some of the later enemies in 4.1. If you’re a fan of EDF, you need this game.
