About this product
Eartha Kitt was a uniquely distinctive performer, whose sultry and provocative talents as a singer, actress, dancer, comedian and media personality caused the great Orson Welles to describe her as InchThe most exciting woman in the worldInch. From humble and troubled beginnings, she found her way to New York and trained in performing arts, making her debut on Broadway in 1945 at the age of eighteen. Her stage work led to a recording contract with RCA in 1952, and during the early '50s she had memorable hits, which played on her unmistakeable voice and innuendo-laden overtones with songs like InchC'Est Si BonInch, InchSanta BabyInch, InchUnder The Bridges Of ParisInch, as well as other characteristic recordings like InchLet's Do ItInch and InchJust An Old Fashioned GirlInch. She became especially popular in the UK and France as well as her home country, and her often controversial style made her a regular on TV. This great-value 53-track 2-CD collection comprises selected A and B sides of her singles for the RCA, Kapp and MGM labels, including some only released in the UK on HMV, and it provides an entertaining cross-section of her work as well as a great showcase for one of the most individual performers of her era.

A traditional pop singer in the classic early '50s mould, Eydie Gorme, born Edith Gormezano, started her career singing with big bands at the start of the 1950s before signing as a solo singer with the Coral tag and forming a partnership on US TV's 'Tonight Show' with her future husband Steve Lawrence. She enjoyed a successful career recording primarily as a solo artist, but also occasionally with Lawrence, making the successful transition into the post rock 'n' roll era, as she had hits in both the USA and UK from 1956 into the '60s, her chart success with her husband coming beyond the scope of this anthology. This excellent-value 56-track 2-CD set comprises selected A & B sides from her 40 or so solo singles on the Coral, ABC-Paramount and Columbia labels during these years, excluding duet performances with Steve Lawrence. Features all her ten solo US and UK chart entries from this era, including the Top 20 hits InchYou Need HandsInch, a US No. 11, InchYes My Darling DaughterInch, a UK No. 10, and InchBlame It On The Bossa NovaInch, a US No. 7. It showcases her ability to range across the music spectrum from sophisticated big band material to upbeat pop, and provides a substantial and entertaining overview of this key first decade of her career.

How does brokenness walk? Or move through the world? says guitarist/vocalist Carrie Brownstein about The Center Won't Hold, Sleater-Kinney's tenth studio album. InchWe're always mixing the personal and the political but on this record, despite obviously thinking so much about politics, we were really thinking about the person - ourselves or versions of ourselves or iterations of depression or loneliness - in the middle of the chaos.Inch The Center Won't Hold is Sleater-Kinney's midnight record on the doomsday clock. After twenty-five years of legendary collaboration, rock'n'roll giants Brownstein, Corin Tucker, and Janet Weiss rise to meet the moment by digging deeper and sounding bigger than we've heard them yet. Here are intimate battle cries. Here are shattered songs for the shattered survivors. The Center Won't Hold drops you into the world of catastrophe that touches on the election,Inch says guitarist/vocalist Tucker of the title track. InchWe're not taking it easy on the audience. That song is meant to be really heavy and dark. And almost like a mission statement, at the end of that song, it's like we're finding our way out of that space by becoming a rock band. The Center Won't HoldHurry On HomeReach OutCan I Go OnRestlessRuinsLOVEBad DanceThe Future Is HereThe Dog/ The BodyBroken
