About this product
The fame of Father Giambattista Martini is largely due to his activity as a historiographer, theoretician and teacher of music unceasingly carried out by him at the Bolognese convent of S. Francesco his monumental Storia della musica, the first history of music ever written in Italian and published in Italy, was hailed by the most distinguished personalities of that period, who unanimously praised his deep erudition. A great number of young composers and musicographers from all over Europe, wishing to learn the secrets of this art, stopped in Bologna to receive a training or perfect their knowledge under his guidance. A less celebrated activity by Martini was that as composer that he carried out continuously as maestro di cappella in the Basilica next to the Bolognese convent from 1725 to the time of his death. The pieces presented in this CD relate a little-known episode in Martini's life, an episode that shows how highly he was appreciated also as a composer. Alessandro Quarta, leading the Concerto Romano and the vocal ensemble Ecclesia Nova, is the protagonist of this precious world premiere recording, a live production by Tactus of the concert held in Bologna at the Basilica of San Francesco the 21st of April 2023.

Three CD set. 64-track box set of post mod grooves and heavy British R&B. Focussing on music from the late 1960s and early 1970s that avoided Tolkien-esque fantasy and flower power, instead drawing inspiration from the jazz, blues and soul music of black America. This musical journey takes the listener from the heavy Hammond organ groove of Deep Purple's US hit 'Hush' to CCS's funky 'Brother' via British blues from John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Fleetwood Mac and Chicken Shack, jazz rock from Manfred Mann Chapter Three, The Johnny Almond Music Machine and Satisfaction and the soulful vocals of Stevie Winwood, Sharon Tandy and Rod Stewart. Key artists include Deep Purple, Sharon Tandy (backed by Fleur de Lys), Small Faces, Faces, Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, Jeff Beck (with Rod Stewart & Ronnie Wood), Georgie Fame, Stevie Winwood with both The Spencer Davis Group and Traffic, Mighty Baby, Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger & The Trinity, Blodwyn Pig and Graham Bond. Many musicians here had been through the British R&B and soul scenes including Satisfaction's Derek Griffiths and Deep Purple's Jon Lord and Keef Hartley with The Artwoods, Jeff Beck with The Yardbirds and Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger and Rod Stewart with Steampacket while Mighty Baby had evolved from The Action and Spooky Tooth from The V.I.P.s.
