In the late 1970's Athens, Georgia was buzzing with a raw but sophisticated music scene. The turn of the decade began producing new sounds from bands like the B-52's, R.E.M. and Art-Rock luminaries, Pylon. Before they were a band, Pylon were art-school students at the University of Georgia invigorated by big ideas about art and creativity. In 1980 the band released it's first record, Gyrate and began touring across the country in support of the . Following the critical acclaim of Gyrate, Pylon went back into the studio. They gleefully pulled their songs apart and put them back together in new shapes, revealing a band of self-proclaimed non-musicians who had transformed gradually but noticeably into real ones. The resulting album was, Chomp. Now, more than three decades later, both studio recordings have been remastered from their original audio tapes and are set for on New West Records.Chomp is now back in print on multi-color splatter vinyl.

On his long-awaited follow-up to his critically lauded 1996 Criss Cross debut, Penn's Landing (CRC 1134), and the equally powerful Play-Penn(CRC 1201), from 2001, master drummer-percussionist Clarence Pennpresents Dali in Cobble Hill, a meditation on how the iconic Surrealist painter might have digested a stroll through Penn's Brooklyn neighborhood. The eight originals and two standards incorporate a variety of moods, flavors, and strategies that reflect Penn's extensive activity as a sideman for jazz' best-and-brightest over the past decades; his ensemble of grand master generational contemporaries Chris Potter on tenorsaxophone and bass clarinet, Adam Rogers on guitar, and Ben Street on bass inhabit the stories, playing with deep imagination and virtuosic craft.
